Very windy up here on the hill...
Hows the projects going everyone? I'm moving on as time allows.. made shoes and coins yesterday, aged an accessory today.. still stalling on the arms which will move - so I need to keep running through ideas for the best method..
Once the arms are done.. it'll be down to clothing, painting and accessories for the display.
spent most of the day trying to clean up after a houseful of teen guests over the holidays and just enjoying the peace and quiet..

One of the eyes is sitting slightly crooked on my secondary sculpt... so very annoying... I'm having some moments of slight panic.. wondering what on earth I'm doing entering a doll show with my first figure sculpt.. usually when I spot the imperfections.. But most of the time I'm okay and happy to be having this opportunity so early on.. I know I'll learn a lot from this experience. I've emailed you a little peek.. and seeing as I'm such a lousy photographer it doesn't give away much...

Hey everyone. Sorry havent had a chance to post in a while, its been a crazy few weeks Its my son first birthday next Tuesday and the week after that he goes to daycare for a couple of days. And my sister takes him on Mondays, and I take her 4month on Wednesdays, so very very soon I am going to have 3 days with no kids!! I am so excited about actually having time - time to sculpt, time to concentrate on Dollworld, and time to get ready for the September fair Very very exciting It looks like everyone is well into their show pieces. I still havent started mine. But I have made some progress on Anemone - will start a WIP post for it

Hi all... Hope you get a chance to get onto the eyes this weekend Fantail.. go girl.. I know you can.. I know you can.. hehe.. Not quite as warm as we'd like but hopefully warm enough out there. Great to hear from you Jules.. 3 days kid-free yay.. you'll get heaps done.. sounds like you are very organised anyway so you'll get through your show piece quickly. Loved seeing your WIP pics and your up to #26.. I've been sculpting the same time as you and this is my first full sculpt.. hmmm I need to up my pace I think. Have a wonderful day everyone... have fun today..

Hi Donna After I told you how long I had been sculpting I sat down and really thought about it And I think it was a lot longer than I had thought My first doll was made before my son was born, and he is 3.5 years now So I would guess its been more like 4 years at least, very part time though

Ah I feel better now.. haha.. but I do find it hard to believe I've been involved with sculpting for 17 months already.. but yeah its not the length of time is it.. its more how much time you can donate to sculpting. I've spent considerable time on 'research' as I call it... checking out all the inspirational works out there, coveting and collecting books, reading, searching.. but the best learning still has to be the actual sculpting... so time for me to get a move on. I managed to purchase an old Marie Osmond pattern pack for 11-12" dolls, with various styles- pants shirts dresses etc... so I can cut the time down on pattern making at least, they are easily adaptable.. its going to be a whole new experience making very small clothing. Well I hope everyone had a very enjoyable day and hopefully got some creative time in.. I was actually on the sewing machine today, so getting back into practice...

Yeah I don't know if years are much to go on. I've only started on my third sculpt this year and haven't finished the first too and sculpting the silly things in plasticine and paper clay or dough as a child count? That pattern sounds cool Donna well from those little leopard print shoes you made I know you are going to do great with the clothes. I don't think I will get to the resin part of the eyes today cause I still need to cut and paste the iris's on to the eyes and seal them again and let them dry properly Spent many hours cleaning the eyes off again selecting the eyes sealing the paper the painting over the pupil and adding a bit of pearl (or in the case of the brown and green eyes some gold squiggles of paint) mostly done by torch light as I have nothing suitable to work by and the problem with photocopies are that you have these offset lines that sometimes run right through the page which is so hard to see at night I've had to compromise on the eye colour because I used up all the ones I wanted on my early attempts as the resin goes very frothy in cold temperature so it ruined a lot of attempts. Could turn out better as this shade brighter and I am trying to making a bright and colourful piece. Hopefully doing thin layers this time will work better as the iris's are about 6-7mm wide and it takes longer for the bubbles to rise. I was sitting this morning in bed, making a start on needle felting the body overt he armature, still not done but it makes a big difference in working out the scale and pose of this piece better get back to the eyes Hope you all have a wonderful day

I can't figure out my new sewing machine... it's too complicated LOL... electronic stuff !!! I have masses of feet for every type of sewing you could imagine, but don't seem to have the ordinary straight sewer... I'll have to go through everything again and read the manual.. but I ended up using my old machine which you just plug in and put your foot down... much more suited to me!! So I think it best I use it for the little clothes this time. If anyone wants copies of these basic patterns.. just ask.. some of the pieces are already photocopies anyway.. happy to share. I think a Marie Osmond doll was similar to Barbie.. but it fits most 11-12".. and roomy. Well I didn't get any sculpting done yesterday, but I will today.. I want it in the oven tonight, completely finished.. (minus arms which will be unattached). I would like to be complete by the end of this month.. no last minute panics needed.. All the best with your projects today Fantail, everything sounds wonderful so far.. Have a great day everyone..

Okay I'll get onto it as soon as I can... as I said they'll need some adaption but still good basic patterns all the same... I'll just lay them up on photocopy paper if thats ok.. and instructions..
( please note I'm not selling this, just sharing old, previously copied pattern)
I've just been looking around the net to see how to make a hat... all sorted now.. just have to have a go.. never a dull moment with this sculpting huh... and ALWAYS something new to learn.... ;D

just glued the irises in and one more coat of gloss it takes a long time to cut them out glue them and paint the edges for the cat eyes and more needle felting, tricky when everything relies on something else but it doesn't quite look right yet Well back to the one leg to see if I can get it to look right I can't wait to get it just so, so I can work on the other leg and start on shoes and hands but I still won't be comfortable till the eyes are done
