I had forgotten all about them. Fitting it in will be tough, I really need to get a start on my comp piece for the September doll fair. Is everyone well underway for that?

only good weather if you have light clothes and warm hands I need to invest in a white science lab coat - not a straitjacket or just a large white shirt to where over the top

Thanks fantail Yes I actually made that entire outfit on the 27cm doll, the skirt, top and the hat. Although funny enough when I was making the hat I was following a pattern that was meant to be making a flat doily. LOL I guess I was missing some stitches or just doing it to tight. So once it started to curve I decided to change it to a hat and started winging it.

The outfit looks great and what a fortunate mistake to turn into a cool hat

Thanks Shushannah and Blue Yes I guess it was an fortunate mistake Fantail Its not the first time too, I remember once trying to crochet a hat for my son before he was born, and following the steps it ended up looking right, but was the size of a barbie hat LOL. So I guess I am using the wrong size needles and/or wool, stitching too tight, or there just is something about crochet patterns that I am not getting. I think that's the toughest part with our craft - there are so many avenues you need to learn to be great at it, its not just sculpting - that's often just the very small part at the start!

Hey everyone... I've been awol for so long.. had to jump around the forum a bit to catch up.
Saw your little bjd Jules.. how cute is he..very adorable indeed, well done you.
Caught up on the mini food and spoondoll challenge too.
How is everyone going with the Sept show pieces... made a start yet?
I've been mucking around with mine, unfortunately time hasn't been on my side lately though. I had an unfortunate mishap, well a couple actually.. due to the wire I chose to use for armature.. *note to all.. don't use aluminium wire just coz its easy to pose with.. it MOVES during heating and movement.. causing cracks and breaks... urghhh!!! Lesson learnt by me, unfortunately too late in the pieces to correct.
However, I'm going okay so far, have two characters sculpted.. just needing 1 hand on one, and 2 hands on the other.. (dithering coz I'm crap at hands and they'll be holding things) and then onto colour and clothing.. plus setting and accessories to come. Fabrics have been purchased etc.. so probably not too bad time-wise.
I probably won't get my other idea done for the show.. LOL.. but I like the idea so much that I'll fit it in as my next major piece anyway..

Great to hear you are well into your comp piece Donna I am still yet to start ~eek~ Fantail I feel your pain, its hard to get the wire on clean on the film You can use tape to hold it down until you bond the other piece of film to it, but that doesn't allow for fine details wire bits. But like anything practice makes perfect

I think people have also used that 3d crystal lacquer What you can do is tape down a piece of film over your design And then glue the wires in place Wait till it completely dries and then place another piece on top and seal with heat - no need to glue the top half

I need to be able to bake it so the crystal lacquer is not really an option Thinning the glue helps a little - though fusing the top layer sounds good I do worry that the wires might twist free when I pose it - though that might just have happened cause I didn't iron the two layers enough practice - practice practice

Yes I would think the iron wasnt hot enough. Obviously you don't want the iron to touch the film, but through a handy towel or piece of cloth you want the iron pretty hot. It should get pretty hard and solid when completely bonded Has anyone ever thought of using that gelarti system to make wings? www.fishpond.co.nz/Toys/Gelarti-Designer-Studio-Unbranded/9999357355514Every time I see an ad for it I wonder if it will work.
