Wow everyone sounds so busy. I am so looking forward to seeing all of your work on Saturday. I hope all of the hands turn out great. I've been trying to make my first pair of hands but I keep having to start them again because I can't get them right. How do you get the living doll clay to stick to the wire so that it is more secure and doesn't keep bubbling?
I must be different from some of you. I love the sewing part of making something, especially hand sewing, I find it really therapeutic. I love all of the fabrics and trims, in fact I think I am a tad obsessed with them actually. I spend a lot of my time designing clothes and costumes for dolls and I wish I had time to make them.
I reckon a lot of innovative design comes from mistakes we make. It makes things so much more interesting. Good luck everyone I know you will all do well.
Thanks for all of the love, it is so appreciated. We are getting used to our losses now instead of feeling rather unreal about it all.

Shushannah the trick in getting the clay to stick to the wire is coating it TLS first. That's what I do for the hands. My adding clay to the hand armature is here www.dollworld.co.nz/hand-armature/ and how to make the armature here www.dollworld.co.nz/hands-and-feet-armature/ you may also find it easier to take breaks in between if the clay gets to soft, let it cool down a bit I also love trims and lace. I always seem to come away from the Doll fairs with several bags of bits of lace and trim scraps - I just glue them on with fabric glue instead

wow, you guys are amazing. I really enjoyed seeing all of your beautiful creations. Well done blue for taking the best of the show. I personally wouldn't have been able to choose between you all. Each of your pieces were unique and marvellous.
I was wonderful meeting so many of you and finally putting names to faces.
My two girls loved the little doll I bought from you blue. They have been oohing and aahing. I wish I had loads of lovely non earmarked cash to buy more.
I hope everyone gets more sleep now all the pieces are finished and can relax a little more.

It was great catching up with everyone again over the last couple of days And what a great fair it was, it really feels the interest in sculpting dolls is growing in New Zealand And what awesome comp pieces from everyone! The bar is definitely raised and I think these competitions are really helping to bring out the best in all of us Not to sure about the relaxing though Already sketching out pieces for the Hamilton "Fairies in the garden" and the Auckland "On a musical note"...ideas are ticking away Actually it would be nice to get them done now and not leave them to the last minute but not much chance of that happening

Hi Jules , it was great to get to see your competition piece up close too she was fantastic I loved her hair and all the detail too, seeing how you put the pieces together was brilliant, even the chariot looked very authentic, can't wait to see your next sculpt
Hope you get time to get onto the next pieces soon I am scratching my head but nothing is coming to me yet Great to catch up with you too and would love to hear more about the sculptor you told me about I've already forgotten his name. Do you think the fellow form NZ's Hottest Cook saw our entries. Hehe.

I'm not sure if Colin Mathura-Jeffree went up on the stage, I didn't see him up there I have lots and lots of ideas for the Fairies in the Garden theme, but nothing for the music theme yet. Still early days though Did I mention a sculptor Fantail? I cant recall that. But if you remind me what we were talking about I am sure it will come to mind

Well the mystery of my broken laptop was revealed... no.2 son had spilled drink all over it!!!! Its working but it won't charge, so I have enough battery to try and retrieve all my info, photos etc.. grrrrrrr!!! Im using his now.. (which is dumb, coz it backspaces and puts letters in the wrong places Anyway.. Yes our celebrity visitor did go on the stage to view the entries ;D and he told Blue how pretty her dolls were..
I have a couple of ideas running through my head for these two themes.. but still thinking.. Will you enter Hamilton show fantail?

Hiya.. ahem its October now btw..
My laptop is all ok now.. seems to have all dried out now.. *note to self to back up files anyway..
Hmm Daniel Falconer is interesting.. I'll show Damien his work too, he'll like it.
I got a birthday voucher from Spotlight this year, first ever and weeks before my birthday.. (?).. $20.00
I never saw any 'patches' fantail.. looked pretty perfect to me..
I tried to take photos of mine today (tried.. they are not very good, as usual) I need to invest in a good camera I guess, or hit up my neighbour to take them... anywaaaay.. I saw all sorts of flaws in the daylight. Boy I'm glad it was darker in the hall.. hahaha.
