Me and Blue battling over balls... hmmm could be amusing... I have a passion for treasure hunting in second hand stores.. I don't go often now coz the must-haves are taking over, and I can't part with things... its so exciting all the same.. One of my trips I found 2 small brass cauldron and a small wooden spinning wheel... these are begging for witch and godmother sculpts now.. Whats with it today.. everyones cleaning. Winter makes such a mess of things huh.. I'm kinda sick of it now.. my sculpt is calling me... sculpt meeeee... I'm running clothing styles and decorative ideas around in my head while I clean. I'll be sourcing material soon. Thinking ahead.. have you baked a sculpt with tibetan wool already attached..? I'm thinking I might have to... would you dampen it or wrap it or something? The resin on the bjd's is terrific... so thin and light but strong.. love it. hope you're having fun..

Cool finds Donna I have some material that I want to use, couldn't help but buy a few pairs of buttons aswell I have baked a head or two that I rooted mohair in and wet the hair. You can wet it before you bake, you can wrap it too if you want in a moist serviette or something. What did you use to attach it? You might need to watch the glue though

I'm not up to the hair yet, but running the pose through my head - I'm thinking I will probably have to do the hair then add other parts which will have to be baked.. Hehe I tried poking a needle in some clay to add 'rooted' hair.. what a mess.. The glues I have are fabri-tac (which I don't like) and I've bought the tacky glue you recommended Fantail..(which I haven't used yet) otherwise I have PVA...I know PVA handles baking.. but I haven't heard of anyone using it to glue on the hair. I tried the net today plus Glass Attic and Ooak forum but nothing came up... I guess if no-one has done this I should do a test... then we will know...
Head and neck attached to torso now, so far so good.. ;D
Whatzup everyone else.. ? Jules you back yet?

Hi Fantail... Great link thank you, beautiful sculpting indeed. Lovely costuming as well. Thanks for your response on the glues... I'll do a test on the tacky glue first I think.. just glue some T.wool on baked clay, then re-bake.. will let you all know the results

Morning all.. So happy to hear you are feeling a lot better now Blue.. head colds are no fun at all.. this changing weather doesn't help much... sunny half the day then icy rain... Well I've been moving on with my sculpt as time allows... is it conceited to say I'm think its looking good so far... coming along well and looking close to what I had in my minds eye... Hope you are all good and making time for something creative..

Being sick does get in the way
Have fun being creative girls

Hey everyone The fair went really well Was probably so far the best fair I have attended, so will definitely look to doing it again (depending on its location - the word is it moves around each year)
So that is all done and dusted and can now look to the next fair which is the Freeman's Bay fair in September
It looks like you guys are well on your way to completing your dolls. Mine is still in skeleton stage so I really must get onto her. I dont want to leave this one till the last minute like I usually tend to do

In regards to the 190 visitors perhaps this forum could do with more topics rather than this big long one. It could be a bit daunting to join such a large conversation that you weren't already a part of Not to mention there is a lot of tips and information in this very long post that could be hard to find But I am just a newbie, so its just a thought

Hi just thought I should pop in and introduce myself. I have been lurking for a while and after seeing the link on the TM MB. I currently do some modelling for cake toppers using icing, but now would like to start using clay. From my research so far clay is more expensive for the client but is more permanent, and more robust to environmental issues like humidity. I am not sure where to post a question to get me started on how to use it, best brand for my style of work etc. I have watched a million utube vids, and need a book with the basic how tos. I am just south of Christchurch and need a shop where I can see/feel/use what I am buying. I already have a lot of tools. Am I allowed to start a newbie thread for clay virgins like me ??!!

Coloured Du-kit is $16 odd bucks for 500 gm ?? ish not to expensive. Very good bold colours and has a slight flex once baked. there are a lot of new *sculpty PC colours available to. nice stuff. Ooh thanks - I am still here waiting till the last minute to shut down and get the kids !! I have just posted on the trade me lurkers post - I have some links to photos of the style I do now on a cake website I frequent. Icing does have its limits - and if on display it fades a lot and flys poo in it and make holes - but people get a real kick of how I interpret them from a photo !!!

Hey everyone.. Welcome home Jules.. very happy to hear you had a great time at the fair.. I'm not nearly finished my sculpt.. long ways to go.. I will email you later I need something from you but you don't have stock... Excellent that you came over and joined us Nikki,.. yay we love new members.. keeps everything lively here. yep Zigzag is a great place for all things polymer and Jules has an online shop as well, Dollworld. I started here 1 and a bit years ago and had never touched clay or sculpted anything at all.. these girls have taught me so much and yes there are some great books around too.. I'm sure I have bought most... What sort of style are you interested in as well as the cake toppers? ie art dolls, jewellery etc.. I haven't even managed to read half of the posts on this forum yet.. lol.. I only started this thread originally so we could call in to say hi, keep in touch, as I had seen quite a few members had dropped away, for many reasons I'm sure.. but sometimes there isn't always PC on the go, or photos to show.. so we can just keep it going.. I do agree a lot of good info is scattered through here tho' so as Blue recommended.. we should start a new chat thread (were trying to wait to pg 100) but post wips tips and photos etc in the appropriate threads... and new discussions ( I already have one in mind.. hehe ) questions etc... Gotta go.. be back later... Great to meet you Nikki..

LOL that is funny that you are trying to make it to the 100th page Welcome to the board Nikki As Donna mentioned I have an online shop at www.dollworld.co.nz, but I am Hamilton based. Petra is in Christchurch but she doesn't have an actual shop, she sells her goods from www.zigzag.co.nzBut please do create new posts for any questions you have, there is a bunch of lovely people on this forum that will be more than happy to answer any questions you have

Hi Nikki, so nice to meet you. I REEAALLY love your cake toppers.
Can I suggest that if you want to keep going on this thread a little longer that you copy any tips and etc to the appropriate thread in the sub-boards? Most of the threads down here in General tend to get OT.
