Donna I cant believe you have so much done already! Ever since I swapped to 12 parts Living Doll and 1 Mould Maker the cracks and breakages have practically stopped, the only ones have been when I have been stupid and tried to handle them too much when still warm. The other option if you think its a joint issue is to use epoxy over the armature to really set it in place. I know Natasha from MorezMore does that morezmore.com/myblog/2008/07/24/rusalka-1/Yes a lot on this year, but like you say I need to get out there to show people what this craft is in-order to drum up new customers. I am especially excited about the Armageddon. That one will be 90% about the Obitsu dolls targeting the Anime crowd, but would also like to take a few finished clay pieces and my kits. Its funny, after all the craft and doll fairs I have done my nerdy husband finally decides that he would like to help out at the Armageddon fair, ship the kids off with the grandparents and make a weekend of it he says. I wonder how much time he would spend serving verses how much time spent wandering around the other stalls though LOL

Well I was ahead with my piece last year too.. yet I was still finishing it at 4pm when drop-off was at 4.30.. hahaha. As I said I have family coming over again smack in the middle of it all, so I want to be finished early. I also have accessories to make.. just because I like making the little stuff. I also would like to try a fantasy piece for a change and female too.. I seem to be making all male sculpts.. I have an idea so I'm hoping to get onto her as well.
Thanks for the tips for the clay. I love Natasha's blog but I haven't called in lately, I'll check it out. I really still prefer SS you know. I LOVE that clay, I don't love the darkening and moonies though so I use 1/2 living doll, 1/2 supersculpey now. I don't think its the clay to be honest.. I think its my fault as they didn't crack without a bit of help.. lol. It was where the leg/arm were bent, I don't think I strengthened it enough at those points.. still learning here..
Armageddon sounds very cool... I'd like to go to that, I think my 'kids' would like it too by the sounds of it.
I think its wonderful that hubby wants to go with you and help out, great stuff. I noticed some (most) of the men like to chat together too Lol.

Oooh I think the obitsu dollies will do great at Armageddon, the exact target audience you are looking for and the your BJD might do great there too
Oh Blue glad you had a blast and the hankies sounds fab and your cake eater is gorgeously sculpted
I baked and painted a few bidie bears- need to make some more
That does remind me I have a few bends in my comps armature that I need to strengthen before I start and still have to make an armature for the head etc I have also made a teeny armature with a different pose to test some techniques on Hehe no sewing for me if I can help it this year Hope you all have a great week

I find the darker the clay the more likely the moonies show up. So beige is more likely to show them than light. Also if its not conditioned right, which is where a mix helps as you have to really blend it to get it mixed and in the process are conditioning it right. I use my food processor (an old one dedicated to the job) It chops the clay up into tiny little beads and then I moosh them back together, and repeat if not a perfect smooth colour. I am not sure if they are doing it in Auckland, but at the Hamilton Armageddon they did a Zombie walk, where they all get dressed up in full Zombie costume and then go to some mall or such and do a big zombie walk. How cool is that Unfortunately they don't tell you were they are going to go, so I couldn't see them The Auckland organiser told me they are having a masquerade ball on the Friday night Fantail, I would probably take some BJD if I still have any, I am just not sure if I want to keep stocking them, or if I should continue with the Obitsu range and start stocking their big dolls. Only time will tell

No Idea as to which would be better to stock I guess having a small range and asking the people that visit your stall might give you an idea of what they'd prefer If you still don't know what people want after that I guess people can collect more of the small dolls then they can the big ones I heard they had a a flash mob of zombies in Auckland a couple of years ago though I didn't see that either

Ooh what a great find and it would look cool with a few kitties too but alas the smaller you make them the more likely their spindly legs will break
I'm busy making a card at the moment using stamps and coloured paper will need to get back to the bears tomorrow

Hello everyone.. Seems all have been busy with projects and things.. Yay biddy bears.. I really love those cuties.. can't wait to see some ;D Lucky you Blue for spotting the cat display.. you might have had a bidding war if I'd seen it earlier.. LOL. I remember those stands from the trade fairs when I had the shop, some were expensive, even wholesale, so its a good buy. I still have some of the miniature animals I used to sell that fitted on them, but the cats dogs horses and bears sold fast. I don't know if I have any of them for the sizing.. btw most of the minis were sitting or laying down.. so no spindly legs hahaha Jules I just realised by referring to hubby as 'nerdy' you meant he would be going to the show for the content rather than being 'helpful'.. LOL. Blue... cut the lace up.. LOL.. it will be gorgeous on your girls.. better than in a drawer unseen. Upcycle I say.. Nothing new from me.. still need to put up the pics soon.. and my sculpt is coming along slowly but going well.

Wow those dolls are beautiful what a lovely link. The costuming is exquisite. I love the innocence of the little girls!, they are gorgeous. I borrowed a soldering iron from my sister yesterday and had a great time melting and cutting shapes out of felt and a very thick pellon. I felt like I was being a little dangerous melting things. IT WAS GREAT!!!!! ;D

Donna, yes that's exactly what I meant about my nerdy husband Fantail how about using a bit of wire or pipe cleaner for the cats legs? With a clay body and clay paws with the wire bringing them together as the legs and tail. That could make them kinda posable too. Could be a lot of fun Shushannah soldering irons are lots of fun. I got myself a very fancy mini soldering kit with all sorts of attachments for when I was cutting the plastic on the broken globe in my Labyrinth piece. But you do have to be very careful, after cutting the plastic with the soldering hot knife I used a scalpel to clean it up. And stupid me decided the blade was blunt so I changed it to a new one and you guessed it - sliced my finger open. And the worst part was I dropped the blade, jumped up to sort my finger out and managed to kick the scalpel with my toe and cut that too!!! What a dope!

I didn't even notice the globe great idea Cool Twig chair, thank you for the link too Jules
The last cat I made was small and the wire was just thin enough to still get some clay on but the "cat street" looks rather small which means on that scale wire will make the cats legs too thick, and I can't do it without wire. Maybe possible if the cat is very fluffy. I guess Donna might be on to it and I could just make it lying down

hey lufflies
cat street ( soon to be bear street) is quite big.....i can fit 4-5 bears on every little ledge so will make for some fun bear scenes.... it does need an oversculpt on some areas and a total repaint.... ummmm another project.....urg...lolol but i do remember the others to.sheep works.mice. ghosts.and a fairy world which was pretty with small rolling hills...hmmmm very cute little mini scenes thats for sure.... and quite heavey resin so at least one will not tip it over...
anyhow hope you all have a most wonderful weekend and manage to squeeze in some clay time

That does sound bigger than I thought Pitty they didn't have gaps in the larger windows so you could make mini scenes inside the rooms as well I think it looks great already but can't wait to see what you have in mind for it, exciting More bears need to be made then ;D

Blue it sounds like you have some awesome plans for the cat display, and I know with your creative touch it will be even more impressive. Its amazing that that many bears will fit on each ledge, it obviously a lot bigger than it looks. I wanted to share with everyone my latest project. He (I say he, but could be a she as well) has a long way to go, and there are many parts I want to tweak. But I am not going to get to hung up on it being perfect, as its more about fun the being perfect. Anyway here are some pics (sorry took them with my phone so not great quality) He was sculptured in clay, moulded in pinkysil and cast in resin. His hands I need to drill in a better angle so they can spin more. I added the locking bumps on his calf, like my bjd doll has. And they work well, I will probably add them to the thigh to help keep a sitting pose. But like I said he is not perfect but he is fun he will be sold with a lanyard and keyring hook, so he can be used either as a keyring or maybe a bjd for your bjd

Thanks Shushannah and Fantail I have tweaked his hip by cutting a deeper curve where it meets the thigh ball, and have adding locking pins to the back of the thigh. So this should let him sit better and lock the position in place. And have added a second hole at the back of the wrist with a slit between the to holes, so the hand can pop in and out of two main positions with rotation at those points. I will remould the two edited pieces tonight, so should be able to start casting off some new pieces, giving the seams a good tidy and them onto the assembly line for stringing, next week And my sister owns www.charmedworld.co.nz so I have a good supply of lanyards, keyrings and jump-rings
