Cheating I'm an ooak-er at heart If you are reproducing your own sculpt in a different medium or if you are just making loads of inexpensive little sculpts (the original being your own) to supplement your income its a different story How do they later prove that if they aren't using commercial moulds that its their own work and a pure sculpt. I think it also makes people feel that they aren't able to sculpt that well cause they don't keep at it and take a short cut Not to mention that you probably end up using a lot more clay when you aren't sculpting over a tinfoil form and that you won't have variety

thanks ladies
the eyes were ok but seamings i sorta went up a scale with the face shape and the eye placment did not (fixed into head) it made them to small and close together shame cause they eyes can get expensive to just end up embedding them in clay sigh......... oh well tho its turned into a Caucasian baby ive built up the brow and closed the eyes i guess she will be my silicone afterall
i have some hand blown german glass eyes that are the most amazing things ive ever sean --- they cost two arms two legs one day when i pluck up enough gumption ill actually use them. i actually go them ages ago for my vinyl prototypes but they ended up being far to small.
as for the two part commercial moulds Donna Ive made my own and used them and just pimped them with every sculpt from them. If you want to i can give you a hand makign the moulds.i have all the gear here ; )
some thoughts to consider with this line of work.
*lack of practice on sculpting your own bodys to character for each doll can be a hinderence to yoru learning curve. * it can save time but there is a big difference between quality and quantity * if you want to use a body mould sculpt yoru own come down to my place and ill show you how to make a two part plaster mould for it. * two part moulds will always have a seam line that will need a scalpel to sort out -- this will mean mooches. *they weight a lot so international postage will be big- do check postage costs... the small p.r moulds are 1pound each * you will still need to consider yoru armature *you will still have to detail post mould and resculpt hands and feet and detail faces. * they are a good way to learn if your using someone else s moulds eg P.R her dolls are beautiful. But its also important to render our own unique styles and touches to. if you troll the bay you can always spot the P.R clone mould dolls. Your own style and yoru own touches , who you are as an artist is important no matter what sculpting stage yoru at.
ok lecture over....sorry for the rant and bossiness.
and yer i love dolls........ i have some bjd also. and a strange and unusual collection of TM broken rejects that i fix up somewhat. some are rescued some are given most are bought. but their shapes styles colourings and flair inspires me also. the rest just beckon to be fixed and dressed lmao but whats a dolls studio without dolls..... i dotn just want to look at my own creations all day i have many different styles.... even an anubis goth girl..yer baby ; )
back to my eyes.or non eyes as it happens to be.
xR
( dont hate me for ranting - its only j.m.o and holds only what is useful to you just throw the rest out the window )

OOh all that talk of delicious foodie things, if I had the time today I would have baked all day and eaten it all myself You made me want cakes and bickkie things..hehe Thank you both for your honest opinions..which is what I was asking for...it matters. I saw that a NZ supplier was offering moulds for sale at a very reasonable price and I must say I was tempted, thinking I could tweak to make them ..somewhat original. I guess I knew it wasn't right thing for me, but it was tempting to cut the learning time down. I know I will be a better sculptor if I do it the right way. And when I get to making a figure I'm completely happy with I will take you up on that offer Blue, to help me to do a mould of my own work.. I think thats the best idea So the learning continues... Thanks again for your thoughts.... No time for playing AGAIN today Things will settle down by Sunday though...

I EAT your pistachio and craisson biscotti Tails HA! Runs off laffin., then chokes on biscotti crumbs then trips over a clay ball mould and falls out the door........................ ROFLMAO U SO FUNNY! Hello. just popping in. got so much to do. no clay for me either. although I do have a few bits waiting to bake - I may be able to slip them in. A different perspective on the moulds - I really think it comes down to what your purpose is. If you are wanting to practise the finishing details without spending so much time on the structure maybe yes, but as Blue said, its a shortcut and won't do your learning curve any good. My personal feeling is OOAK would be much more satisfying in the end. REmember this is coming from Me ... not exactly a sculpting expert, I'm all for shortcuts if my nicknack ends up how I pictured it! Biscotti for breakfast ... ?

Morning everyone... I was laughing so hard at the vision of Blue with her crumbs falling about the place, hahaha... ;D Hiya Bll, wonderful to hear from you..I hope you get to bake your new pieces this weekend. Thanks for offering your thoughts too.. I took what you all said on board, then I put my emotions into the equation. I realised when friends compliment me on my troll (whom I love BTW), or my progress with the marionettes, I feel happy and a bit proud..but when its for the pieces I copied (screwed hearts, steampunk pieces) I don't feel quite the same. So now I know I wouldnt be true to myself if I used someone elses figure moulds. Before I started sculpting or joined this group, I bought moulds of things like hearts and butterflies, and I think it would be okay to use that sort of thing to embellish mixed media work etc though. Well I have a 21st to go to today, I hope the weather is kind..its outside. I hope the Goblin lets Anubis off the sewing machine for a minute to let us know how she's getting on for the market I hope you all have a wonderful day.. ;D

just running threw but........... the iddy biddys are 4 cm long and i make over 100 at a pop for the shows there is NO FREAKING WAY im making each one by hand EVER AGAIN ( it almost sends me mad) now i use my own mould........... i dont consider it really cheating cause i still have to individually work them and costume them in clay ............... ive got some small moulds for embellishments etc also and they are so very handy and save such time but they are used to accentuate my work rather than being centered around them. anyhow enough on that............ back laters........ good to see you anubis and bll hope ya better soon honey xR Attachments:

Morning Donna LOL it is a beautiful studio Had a great time with the family too but it looks like I'll have to bake more of the cocoa-cherry biscotti The one good thing about cleaning is the things you find - the downsides are the things that you hide to well and can never find while you need it and finding place for the things you rediscovered

Once upon a time in a land far to the west was a crazed artist who had overtaken the end of a dinner table
the corner of the table oh how it grew. from one bar of clay and several misshaped tools to a pile that migrated from the end to the center, so much so dinner plates started to be out crowded by things an answer to this problem was boxes.... oh great and mighty boxes containing newly found treasures. the boxes mounted behind the table........but the boxes multiplied. eventually to new heights reaching the window.... then spreadig along the wall. to each corner in fact. eventually the need for anything produced the emptying of boxes on the floor. this created more chaos than any cat could enjoy it eventually led to boxes going into the Roof cavity to oh dear.........
soooooooooooo..........
in the best interest of sanity and tidiness i kicked the car out and stole the internal access garage ............ blocked off the wall installed kitchen cupboards and waalaa you know the rest of the story ; )
it all started with a corner of the kitchen table ladies...........
yet the madness continues I would like a studio that is clinical and white is always clean and organized much like a surgery room but alas i find such things unmotivating... maybe i have crow and magpie DNA for the room is filled with swirly sparkly textures things that motivate, inspire and grab at my imagination.....books and pictures pins wires and beads oh beadssssssssss such laces that makes one drool, tools, bits of nature, my violin, fabrics cat sleeping spots, doll spaces places and parts, and bits of things that will be useful*one day it is endless, one woudl like a tidy room but one likes also to enjoy that which inspires ....

Preach it sister! Good to have a space you can shut the door on and the only way to go is up. MDF cupboards and plastic stackable crates, stacking drawers and wall mounted shelves, under the table, around the table, on the table ... and up above the manhole to the roofspace threatens to suck up anything that gets too close. No kidding. The cover was on. One night of strong winds and the next day the cover had mysteriously shifted into the ceiling. And still, globs of clay and random bits of equipment sneak out onto the dining table, into the lounge ...

SNORT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***********BLL
SNORT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grin lmao
I love it......*The only way is up !!!!!!!!!!!! yer baby
as for that manhole well now.if it DARES to suck up any clay items .You let em have it sista !!!
I swear to God one tiny shiny bead can make my head spin back like a 100 km whiplash............ its terminal im afraid. no need to fight it tho pointless really..........
to make matters worse at the shows theres a sweet little lady called * Jens bead cottage* she crochets those beaded doll dresses omg OMG ! one bead is nope never enough 50 beads probably enough ? ......... who am i kidding ! dont get me started on those velvet flowers
the dinning room table is a portal for creative insanity manholes are a wormhole trying to suck our wares into a parallel universe
ok best go feed the minions before they start chewing on the furniture again.

;D cool photo Blue.. Hi everyone... Well I didnt tidy the workroom in the end, waylaid by sleeping cats and a marionette daring me to try her legs on to see how they will work...hehe. Well it sounds as if everyone elses workspace is in the same state as mine, so now I don't feel so bad. And I dont have any excuses for not climbing up into rabbit-hole/attic/roof space today, so I'll see what I can find up there. I have other hidey-hole areas with bits from bygone crafting..but I'll venture into those another time.
Btw marionette legs are riotously funny, Damien & I were p$$ing ourselves laughing. They are going to need a lot more thinking about hahaha...
