;D Thanks for the tips fantail.. I was being dramatic really, I quite enjoy being a drama queen haha, it's a Leo thing.. ;D
Bll I can sympathise with you over the badly behaved ones, (I don't like the movies for the same reason) suppose you can't blame the kids too much with the Mother example... I'm pleased the concert went well otherwise. Big congrats to your sweet girl for her award, how awesome for her, and your good little fella for sitting quietly for so long ;D Excellent news about the auctions too, hopefully you'll get some clay time in soon as things are coming to a close.

Sorry to hear about the noisy people- Your a good mom. Congrats on the auctions and your daughter's award . You are very busy, what flavour are the cakes? mocha, although the cinnamon is quite strong. turned out well I must say, nice and fluffy. Its a great 'whip-one-up' cake, you throw all the ingredients in a bowl and beat 4 minutes.

That is the way to go when you are busy Bll ;D
Oh dear blowing up eyes, no luck there then I've never worked with porcelain and you will probably need a whole new source of paints and supplies unless you can use genesis once its been fired. I'm sure the doll club ladies would have a wealth of knowledge for you. I also noticed there is a DVD on the library website that covers porcelain doll making though I have not requested it yet, will do so over the December holidays and let you know if its any good- if you don't beat me to it

Hi everyone.. Those are some great links Fantail, I LUV the first one, thank you. Blue..hehe EYES again eh? seriously you NEED to get that resin coz it works, I baked 45 min at 150 for a 4th bake.. no explosion. I really liked the eyes in your book (will need to have another lookie tho' hehe) so I want to play around with painting irises again..soon.. on a larger scale then reducing and printing a lens sheet of my own.. I see another eye experiment coming up... If you have a look at the link I put up earlier today there is a section on porcelain doll making, I didn't understand any of it haha, but you might. It seems the page starts at the bottom..duh? you have to scroll upward for the different sections. I'm going to try another tack with the dreaded joint now, similar to the BJD's, I need to find/make something to go thru' for the hook to turn on. like a nail or piece of wire, but it needs ends on. You know..I just should have tried a bjd for all the trouble this has been LOL. I swear I put on weight reading about the yummy cake things you make...

Blue, didn't think you were ranting.. I hope your migraine is easing off - thinking of you, be well soon Thank you for the idea too, it is similar to what I was hoping to try, I just wasn't sure whether the clay would handle the movement now...I'm sorry to be a pest about this, I'm sure you're all as bored as I am about it. Maybe I might start something new (and easy) to work on while I think it out... ;D

eyes and joints just some of *those things ; )
but we can conquer the hinge joint just like we have sorta conquered the eyes
but i think we can do the whole eye thing ok just need to make up a template for the lens in diffy sizes. ( in theory )
but joints are a tricky one alright quite intriguing really i would have thought it easier to grab hold of a solid ball joint gees but even hinge joints are tricky to grab to.
but options on the dolls presently around are either elasticated ball joints,, twin hinged swivel plastic joints or internal clicky hinges or just plane two way hinges. and more hmmmmm HMMMMMMMMM there are other ways i tell ya we just gotta tap into them.
there has to be a *guy thing around that would be perfect... something like those swivel fishing line bits without the 360 rotation even a couple of u pins each end with an o ring in the center would give more than 180 back and forth limiting sideways movement- a bit
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
anyhow the ball joint dolly is coming along well. its just a very ruff attempt so i can get things figured out and lined up. im finding this quite fascinating thanks SO much for that big wooden bead tails its been so perfect hehe even with the book its still quite tricky to get lined up. maybe if one had followed instructions perfectly rather than flit off this way and that HA but yer had to laff some of the waste clay was filled with diamantes snigger
rar
back laters

Oh goody my eyes widened with excitement when you said that the "ball jointed dolly is coming along well" Glad its coming handy- I need to get my hands on more of the bigger wooden beads I know I have a few more packed away ;P they are like needles as I work with them they keep disappearing - wicked gremlin Best of luck figuring out the joints Donna - what are you thinking of making in the mean time. Have a great day every one

NO LAFFIN OR ELSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i told ya it was ruff and just waste clay but... just to get the brain and fingers around it all in 3d i made it all wrong its to large to go in oven in one piece so i made all limbs separate......... big mistake when making it ruff as armature needs to match well rarrrrrrrr i do have my heart set on a 9 or about incher but this one is 14 inch and oh my what a cool big size to play with....... ive decided to do two sizes now......... oh god what have i done !!! at least the bigger size will be easier to sew for ( slaps self hard) donna the u and o loops work well there is still a lot of range but there is more limiting to. dunno if helpful or hindrance but heck always looking out for thingies.... and yes tails.... pins, needles, beads and scissors i cant keep hold of any of them they just get up and walk i tell ya... but it amazes me how deep an embroidery needle will go in one split second OUCH ! went to emporium today.......... oh heck. i just needed a few little trims....you know a meter of this and that.... maybe some feathers for no particular reason...... beads that they did not have and im probably lucky about that...lol couple meters of stretchy something lacey and some soft black tule oh my YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS yes yes hmmmmmmm a nice black ribbon with bright red hearts..........yummy oh yer some soft bendy coloured wire i really did not need hmmmmm some plane white cotton braid for i have no idea but it was only couple bucks for the roll......... and a huge roll for $1 of fake red velvet trim inch wide thats pretty much good for nothing but a some day project...... now i spent all my pocket money and must do housework to redeem myself oh my its hot humid here today to i really woudl love to curl up in the shade with a cat and watch the clouds roll on by........sigh oh well off to torture the vacuum cleaner......... enjoy your afternoon lufflies Attachments:

Good grief woman.. you're doing so well with that. Good on you, I knew you'd be able to do it. I'm going to be totally absorbed with this project of yours. Have you just finished the little elves in the photo's? I really appreciate you taking the time to help me figure the hinges out. I have them at the stage you just showed me, which is fine really.. and what everyone else uses.. but I want to cover up the ring part so you cant see it.. I'm feeling like throwing them across the room actually, but I cant leave it alone I might put a photo up soon so you can see what I'm trying to do. Anubis did you want to make a BJD? kaeriefaerie52.blogspot.com/2009/10/soft-sculpture-ball-jointed-dolls.htmlHey Fantail...what are you working on?

Awe wow Blue. She is fantastic I love her face great shapes - hope mine will look half as beautiful when I give it a go and those wee elflings too cute and so small. Yes they are small!
Me I'm experimenting I'm trying out some wire mesh from a small sieve to see if I can make a leaf that is strong enough for mini beast- the polymer clay bonds well - just don't like the cut edges which I tried to turn over its dangerous till the clay is on will know more once its baked, though I don't have any intention to try and break it to see how strong it actually is

wow those fabric bjd are really really cool as. gees i cant imagine how it would be trying to sew that from the inside good greif. but wow aren't they just gorgeous
mesh tails......... pics or it diddnt happen ( kidding) what a neat idea thats for sure. cant wait to see the new beastie grin would you by any chance have been to the emporium in manukau - SP? i heard its good and maybe worth a trip over.
Donna bees knees will be conquered your so darn close just a millimeter away and youll have it. i know its frustrating hun and youve had a few moments where youd like to ninja hurry curry them but it will be so worth it when your done.
the iddy biddys arent completed by a long shot i could only get so far and then ended up starting to ruin things so i baked them . but they will get more clay on. sitting there almost cross eyed looking up and mini beads looking down at mini fairys wondering what the heck im doing muttering to self like a crazy woman URG a colony of WIP's muhahaha the bjd cracks me up she has tape aroudn her head to keep her brains in i had to chop it to take otu the armature and insert new eyes. ya shouda seen them the origonal lens melted and blew out so she looked like she was wearign those funny classes with the eyeballs on spring.........snort. ill have to chop that body in half and take out the armature cause the bodys to straight it needs a good waste curve. urg its gonna take a while but its fun all the same.
anyhow im not here im busy redeeming myself cleaning

It doesn't look like much- I already started adding clay here Yes Authur's emporium but its been years since I last been there and since I don't know what the one out west is like I can't compare. I did enjoy looking through but the second time they had less stock. There is one in Howick too -Jo's emporium and I love the lacy bits and bought my cernit there but I think the Manukau one had a few more treasures. The eye thing would have freeked me out

Hi everyone.. Hehe, I think Anubis will tell me to 'sod off' about the fabric bjd's, cool idea tho'.
Fantail, what about masking tape to cover the cut edge of the mesh. I think it will be strong enough, the leaf I made for the troll is strong and flexible just using sculpey111, looking forward to little beastie on leaf ;D
I couldn't take photos of the hinge thingy, Mister has camera at work, but I had a play around with ideas this afternoon and I know what I'm doing now (in theory anyway) so I shall get on with it tomorrow... fingers crossed.
Blue I really love the itty bitty elf with the long pointy hat that I saw the other day, I think he is very very cute.
Aaaahhhh Emporium shops=caves of must-have treasures..

The masking tape separates the two layers of clay which makes it brittle when it's very thin. I'm using dukit Its just an experiment

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that is way cool what a neat idea tails. best of luck with it im sure it will turn out just perfectly. that mesh is really a great idea. like it : )
Donna Anubis will give you a raised eyebrow followed by a string of vows, nouns and adjectives sniggggger muhahahaha then youll get *the look* KIDDINGGGGGGGGGG
she will probably go PFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTT EASY !
and yer emporiums. the one in hamilton has the best laces basically drool material and beaded stuffs OMG im so sad still our one is now toast. but i wouldnt mind having a look at the one out south some stage. heaven knows they might have some beads i haven't got HA it always amazes me the things one can find there. strange and unusual treasures... but yer just different things... usually starts the brain on ideas.. or crazy half thought threw inventions that end up in the dodgy box lmao
but yer been thinking on the whole eye mould today also. would make one from soft rtv silicone but urrrrrrrrr 3 mm and upwards for size. sorta have an idea to make a half round eye and like a clear shell layer with an added drip at the bottom for lens you could just pop in your painted iris and poke in some clay and the shape / shell is already uniform. but ummmmmmmmm this plotting and planning might go on for a while before i get it done.
anyhowz. off to chase cat burglar that brat cats been naughty in the studio while i was out today. hmmmmm

I can't remember if Aurthur's emporium had any beads though they had interesting metal bits like tiny bells etc can't remember if they had any lace either but there is a bead shop somewhere in botany There is another on the North shore (Java emporium in link drive) somewhere near their spotlight - not been to it either though their spotlight is impressive- its big
well there used to be a bead shop in botany can't find it now

;D Good morning all... I'm hoping to get on with the legs today, so thought I'd show what I've come up with now... aaaaand... NO LAUGHING !!! They haven't been shaped up properly yet, I'll do that once I get the joins right... Middle: How they are now, all swivelly and silly... Left: how I was thinking of making the elbow joint...Right.. the new knee joint idea Otherwise, my only other idea is to make hollow extensions on the ends of the limbs to hide the rings... Any suggestions for improvement would be most welcome Enjoy your day...
