Thank you for your opinions, I'll go ahead and make the joints using that idea then... Lol Blue... I have to cut the legs a bit on that one still, the other ones I've cut shorter (had to when I got savage with the coping saw) luckily they were too long to start with. Aww what a nice day for you visiting with Grand-angel-baby.. Fantail..have you finished little beastie yet??..hehehe I've been digging and moving dirt piles outside again and I've got a headache now, so I'll sit and clay-around for awhile. Oh yeah, I've got an idea for what I'd like to make for the (dreaded) doll show next year..prob already been done before *shrugs*.. I'm thinking I should start NOW.. 1:12, 1:24 scale to many numbers......... Why did I decide that I like doing miniatures.
They are quite fun so I thought I might do some box rooms and some other things lots of ideas.
So far I have a bookcase and handmade books a spiral staircase and alot of part bits. Just tryin to get my head around the scale thing.
Likin what I see with the beastie and the marionettes.

It is alot of fun really I can use all sorts of things to make different things. But the keeping to scale is sooooooooooooo hard at the moment. Will take some pics of what I have so far.

hey anubis how goes it. wicked workings i hear and a spiral staircase wow true legend !!! i hear ya with scale. fabric scale... hair scale...... iddy things that match scale. urg well done tho it exciting for us to see it unfold so to speak. yaa it is going to be magic today i learned..... beads make a tatata tink tink tata tink sound up the vacuum grin and cat burglar likes smacking said beads but does not like them stuck on her feet. muhahahahaha that will learn her ; ) Im not going to continue with A1 bjd ill bake her as is and pop her on the shelf lmao i will start a good "to scale" specimen doll and chop it up and create the joints from there. she has been much fun but its time to be a little more serious with it now ; ) anyhow have a fabulous day ladies its a little cooler today so easier to get threw it all without melting x Attachments:

;D Exciting on here this morning... Great to hear from you Anubis.. When we met up last week we were discussing how much we all luv miniatures of any kind There is a local group here that displays yearly, and ooohhhh I so love what they do.. detailed box displays, settings, houses... It's wonderful that you are involved with it, I can't wait to see your progress, very exciting..yay!!! Blue it seems sad that you are going to put your girl on the shelf.. not the scary one with the broken faces and body bits LOL I'm amazed at how far you've come with her, and how fantastic she is, honestly, you're amazing..everyone else agonizes for months and look at you... *awe* Well I have kids physio and running around to do ... hopefully I'll get to clay later... Talk soon x

well she is baked to sit on a ledge.....lmfao and her feet turned to krispty critters.... its almost fitting really but i really like her burns cracks ruffness and all she just makes me smile. she can be my bjd sculpting buddy lmao
so now ive been hunting threw my books of anatomy and yer at 14 inch there is a whole lot of neat detail one can push into the clay so yer baby. only trickery now is id like to have three separate torso joins hmmmmmm ok so i do that but do they need separate elastic stringing ? leg elastic wouldn't be enough to hold all together right? i dunno hmmmmm
but yer minis omg at the shows i just have to freeze and stare at them all every tiny mm, of those cute little things. amazing stuff as for that mini knitting thats insanely amazing. 10 mm tea coseys insane but amazing maybe in my next life ill have time for that special doll house with working lights and every tiny bit of magic around ohhhhhhhhh sigh dream on ; )

Aaah sound like she likes the tanning bed a bit too much In this link they use two strings one for the armas and one for the legs head and body kagen-no-tsuki.deviantart.com/art/BJD-Restringing-Tutorial-149336992?q=boost%3Apopular+bjd+tutorial&qo=4I know its just a two part body but I think it will work the same maybe the hip part should start with one whole that split into two for the legs that way the body should stay aligned on the string I'm sure I have a bjd tute in one of those magazines that might be helpful for three parts not sure but off to go look and have lunch

interesting stuff. i guess in resin being so light it might not matter as long as the tensions good. hmmm was sorta thinking tension inside that torso might hold a pose better??? oh what the heck would i know lmao it might just be a matter of having a play once its built a sorta thought an elastic triangle from hips to neck maybe its just not needed tho hmmmm but yer i agree id prefer the hip holes centrally larger for tension/stringing
maybe im just to obsessed / possessed with bjd right now and over-thinking every aspect as one does. urg.
ive just been trolling enchanted dolls again omg they are cool i do like the spring tension system but urrrrrrrr groan.
ok off to caffeinate my trollish self ; )

Well I'm very impressed with your BJD Blue, you should name her Molly...it reminded me of the rhyme.. "little Molly Flinders sat among the cinders warming her pretty little toes"... (and she didn't fare any better with her Mother LOL) I'm really, really looking forward to your 'serious' version BJD part2 ;D How is wee beastie going fantail? Can't wait for those photos of bookcase and staircase.. Damien suggested I use metal washers to reinforce the clay for the rod ends, I wasn't sure how the clay would stick, has anyone tried similar? I'm thinking the end of a wooden iceblock stick with a hole drilled might be better Also any idea's for a way to weight the feet... I asked Mister if he would melt his lead fishing sinkers...but I got a sideways look would small lead sinkers be okay with clay? so many questions...

The hat elastic is really strong I had trouble pulling it hard enough to slip the pin through to secure the head of the last sculpt. you need lots of tension to make the doll stand so it should have plenty of tension going all the way through from head to ankle In the magazine, the torso is hollow and two holes going through the hip bit took me a while to find the right issue as its split up in several parts. Will have a look to see what it says about stringing
what about those shoe hole thingies- don't remember what the are called I used a washer but it wasn't inside the clay I left an indent and placed it in loosely (inside the breast plate to spread the tension beneath the neck I think) I don't know how clay and lead would react but you could wrap it in masking tape

Thank you Fantail... I went running off to check my container of metal bits, I have hundreds of large eyelets (yeah those) and I also found some some split-tack thingys I could use for the ends too, yahoo I'll see how they will work.. thanks again, and I'll sneak under the boat cover tomorrow and see what size sinkers are in there... Blue I found the very small eyelets I was telling you I got at Geoffs, I so wish I had got more while I could... didn't you need them for something? I can remember saying you could spray them black, they're pastel colours now...

I would suggest also wrapping the sinkers in bulked up tinfoil cause the clay has a different expansion rate and though it might not affect the clay now it might do so later when its cold
I am weary of the strength of the writs and ankle joints were the pins go I guess you could incorporate it into the hand armature if the hand is big enough - not sure also read that the hip bit that he made was to thin to drill hole in -eek

You've given me enough reason to re-think the weighting idea now, it isn't worth compromising the strength of the joints, which I'm obviously already concerned about... Thanks for your expertise, it has probably saved me from a big problem down the line... ;D Did you get any further with your project today?

Not expertise, I could be over thinking it I was actually thinking about the strain of the elastic on the joints for the marionette their feet will hang loosely and you could embed the loop wire in the armature the feet should hang naturally though without the need for weights Depending on the size the feet should be weight enough If they are too light really small weights wrapped in tin foil then in masking tape might give it a effect that you want
