Oh sorry Donna - I don't have an embossing gun so I'm not sure which is the best to get. I think I saw some at The Warehouse once but don't know if they are any good or if they still have them Kmart might. What are you going to use it for? Maybe someone else knows and have tried pens on clay. No real gifts this year we are doing the secret santa thing. I still have to finish the little dragon for my nephew, I hope he'll like it, he is still very young. Good luck with getting the painting done Hope you will be able to sculpt next week Bll Are you running from the in-laws Blue? This is what I've done on the leaf and the little beast

hi all.. I'm really loving your work Fantail, little beastie is already showing heaps of character and the leaf is very well done too, thanks for sharing his progress with us, he's lots of fun. Thanks for the help, I just want a embossing gun mainly for the angelina film and to dry TLS and the clay-match paint. I used a strong heat gun on the film during the eye experiment, hehe it disintegrated to a shrivel. There's no urgency for one though. My hardware store shopping was a disaster, as I suspected..AND Blue they played Xmas Carols just to make it worse... No-one has invented what I wanted, and you can't buy ball-bearings either.. next stop - my brothers awesome, well-stocked man-cave... and the paint assistant ruined my paint.. instead of a pale cream/gold I now have a cream/green paint ... I'll admit to asking for basic colours to be adapted to my requirements, but I just wish they'd let me behind the counter to mix my own, believe me I ask... I worked in a paint dept for 3 years, I KNOW PAINT, and they get it wrong so often... Oh well...rant over, but I cant paint now.. I hope you all enjoyed your day ;D

Mini magic is not the word so far I have stuck twigs to my fingers but not to the little house, I miss counted the runs on the stair case so there are 15 plus the landing not 13 so its out of scale but I will keep it for another project, I need better glue for the mini bottles, and the Persian rug Im cross stitching is so small that I can hardly see the holes so I need a magnifier.
Im having lots of fun though very entertaining. But I did finish proto book cass and books and the pixie house thing is almost done.
And Bevan ( soon to be dearly departed hubby if he dont stop breaking himself) broke his hand and is off work for 6 weeks with his right hand in plaster. So now we are dealing with acc cause it was an out of work accident.
I love my cave so far disturbed, godsmaked and rob zombie have been thrashed a wee bit over the last few days.
But I am liking mini building just need to get scale sorted a bit more.

;D good morning.. sounds like you're having heaps of fun with your miniatures Anubis, and nearly finished on the pixie house too. Another one with a broken hand.. Poor hubby and through Xmas with a caste.. I feel for YOU too... yeah 'good luck' with ACC I'm envious of your background music, wish I could play in your space.. teenagers here play CR@P music VERY loudly... I intend to get out my cauldron today.. (10lt bucket really ) and mix 3 wall colours together to get the paint colour I want... I HAVE to..obsessing here. I really want to do some sculpting... you are all getting on so well with all your neat projects... I have to make hands now and I'm not sure if I'm in the right mood for that intricate work... Hope you all go well with your sculpting today... ;D

If you are not in the mood for sculpting hands make something else that might get you into the right frame of mind something fun I'm sure you will have better luck mixing the colour yourself

;D big smile from me... my day certainly got better as it went along and I managed to create a paint colour I was happier with too. Thanks for the thoughts fantail, funny I was thinking that too, maybe I should have another fun/quick project to work on as well. I liked making the screwed hearts, coz they were fast & fun. I think I got fed-up with not finding the things I need, and the hold-ups.... Anyway the break must've worked - I've been out and now I've got my book out and checking the scale of hands etc, I feel ready to start them before bed... Bll did you get your tree up? Hope you all had a happy day...

Hi everyone, Well I got the hand armatures made last night, I used the chenille sticks. I thought the fluffy coating would lay down against the wire when I glued it... it doesn't.. haha.. big glove hands ;D sooo.. I'll look out for that coated florist wire when I go out today... LOL at barbie on steroids... Blue when you were talking of your dislike of paper-clay I mentioned seeing air-dry porcelain clay and thought it might be better.. well if you want to check it out... www.amaco.com/floral-brooches-with-craft-porcelain-clay/(Petra sells it) Bll.. only 2 more days.. and you will be FREEEEE... Fantail your little bookcase sounds very cool, how is little beastie progressing? Best of luck with your mini treasures Anubis. Enjoy your day everyone ;D

You can trim the fluff back as you need but it helps the clay to adhere I can't imagine the size you working in but I tend to use the chenille stick for the fingers only if the hands are big enough otherwise I'll use thin twisted wire That sounds like cold porcelain I heard it shrink by a third and often you have to seal the surface too It does look like fun cause you can sculpt very fine things like petals and they make very realistic flowers from it I made some horns for him and worked a bit more on his face since these pictures Started embroidering dragons eyes but they aren't the same

;D OOOH what fun... he's coming along really well, I love his expression.. thank you for the photos. Your wee nephew won't mind if the eyes a slightly different, he will love your dragon.. embroidery would be harder than painting. I used my TLS for the first time. I may be cynical,, but I'm quite convinced these big craft companies re-package existing products, claim a specific purpose and charge top dollar for them, including resins too... My marionettes are 10" or 25cm (according to a skeleton picture) and 1/8 scale (according to Katherine Dewey's scale) so far I've managed to keep them in proportion. Maybe the porcelain clay wouldn't be suitable then, if it shrinks. I was thinking of her BJD's.. I need to get off here and go out...

Thank you Donna I have seen somebody make a really small BJD from cold porcelain but she did have difficulty remaking parts because it shrank so much. It did turn out really beautiful though

Ok so I wanted to make a couple of limb armatures and to make the hands I decided to try something I saw online. I wanted to put some pins in mdf so that I could wrap the wire around. The hand drilling wasn't getting any where fast and pins are too soft to hammer in
I saw a piece of sponge in my room, wrapped masking tape four or five times around it, drew the hand skeleton on it then pushed pins where the fingers end and the wrist starts Taddaaa and I can wrap and weave some 28 gauge jewelery wire around it, then I take the pins out and just use a pin to twist each finger wire. Then you can use the excess wire to twist around the arm
Sometimes lack of patience does pay off ;D

Well done tails.......... nice piece of magic right there. I love the look of cold porcelain but am disappointed with the long term stregnth of it plus it can go mouldy gasp pva glue and corn flower heated and mixed...... pffffffffffft but it works so very fine and smooth one day when i grow up ill try real porcelain sculpting but not right yet...... ** I may be cynical,, but I'm quite convinced these big craft companies re-package existing products, claim a specific purpose and charge top dollar for them, including resins too... Donna your ontoit* thats why we torture ourselves inventing and finding unlost things and those things that have yet to be invented. i will add lots of paints, clays, plastics and basic craft items to that list greedy people SUX KUMRAS btw i found this site......... now that we have perfected eye resin Thank you Donna smallest is 5 mm tho and are available unbacked with no foil. dunno if they would bake tho but $17 usd for 1000 www.allstarco.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=90

What is it about birdcages that are so alluring you could always use those domes to make eyes for your casted BJD's if they can't be baked I can't wait to get my hands on some of that resin I have an idea of what face to sculpt for my BJ dolly but I need the eyes without the eyes ... Thank you for that gem of info about the resin Donna I can't find the words to thank you enough. ;D

darn I wrote a whole message and deleted it by mistake... now I have to start again... You've been busy today... Fantail what a clever little biscotti you are, with your hand invention. Sounds great to me, I'd like to have a try at that, I had no luck finding cloth covered wire today and was on to the next thing. I don't quite get the part about twisting the fingers... the whole finger or just the base. Dont s'pose you took photos? Blue..I'm jealous of your new birdcage... I WANT !!!! LOL Hmmm acrylic cabs, interesting. I have faceted ones with foil backs, I could check out baking.. prob go cloudy and or crack but who knows 'til you try. I want to try a GOOD iris printed on a transparent sheet, set into a concave eyeball and coated with envirotex lite, yep thats my next experiment... It makes me happy that I helped you back.. with the resin I hope to contribute more as I go along... It also makes me happy to hear you planning your BJD Fantail ;D

Must get a silicone mould done for the eye resin only prob is i have several ways id like to try... maybe its time to stop stalling, do it both ways and get it done. just not today. procrastinating much ? but those lens look to be what Ryo was using and im pretty sure he baked the clay then added the lens . the smallest is 5mm tho but the concave Iris eyes do give the best life they do follow you so to speak. hmmmmmmmmmmm here is one of my fav birdcage pics ever. isnt it grand. but i do love the iron cages..... birdcages oh sigh !!! Barbie on steroids is fearing a little better today but still not there yet A2 will be completed god help me. and A3 will have to wait a wee bit im meant to be busy doing mould casing for the silicone's but oh god just not doin it yet. oops anyhow be good you lot ; ) Attachments:

OOH Gothic Mansion Birdcage. Only if you get the time Fantail... I have seen a hand armature done using the pins...somewhere. Thats the only trouble with having too many books or too much internet trawling.. you don't know where something is when you need it... Katherine Dewey said to use cloth-covered wire for her armature, but the local florist said they don't use it now, only the 'painted' type, so I would have to clothe wire myself, or use TLS.. Blue, you have probably seen a lot more eye tutorials than me, but in my K. Dewey book ( presently my bible) she used items like round beads and ball-bearings of different sizes and made a mould... I could copy it if you want to have a look.. Speaking of moulds, I must have a play with your one I have borrowed.. I have so much I should be doing really, I shouldn't even be thinking about clay-play right now.. this is an obsessive art... Have fun.... ;D

Hope these pictures will explain it I'm sure its not dissimilar to what you've seen before the reason I twist the wire is because the clay sticks better to it then when the wire is straight. When you take it off the sponge you do need to stick a scrap piece of wire through the palm loops or just to hold them together until you have twisted a couple of fingers. I don't know how well it will work with stronger wire but then you will probably be making bigger hands and you can just hammer small nails into a piece of wood instead
