Hi everyone.. Hi Blue, thanks for the info, hopefully the clouds will clear so we can see the eclipse. Okay enough rain for now!!! I'm still hoping to see photos of the dragon baby.. Haha I can legitimately play with clay now.. just found out my nephews girl collects elephants and I was stuck for a gift for her. So I'm going to make her a Christi Freisen style steampunk elephant for Xmas. I don't have any crystals for the tusks so I'm going to try making them from translucent clay, hope they work out... I'll show you the one I made for my friend who also collects elephants... Christi freisen makes up the coolest ideas... ;D

WOW that's fantastic Donna it is perfectly steam punk What colour clay did you make him out of and what paint did you use, its very cool If you have clear gloss or mat varnish or sealer it will make the translucent clay look a little bit clearer Busy weekend helped making curried green beans and then pastries for moms work still very cloudy though the rain has let up Made a ginger bread house gift box but I'm trying to glue the sides together -I got the idea off the internet

;D thanks fantail, it was so much fun to make. He was made using the scrap clay from my tragic attempt at the eye-cane, which went grey when squished and I added silver clay. I brushed on silver, gold & copper powder ( like pearlex ) Would it help to put TLS on the raw translucent then gloss varnish after baking?
Your gingerbread house sounds fantastic.. and all your other goodies... hmm I haven't eaten today, better go find food...

I don't know the TLS is normally cloudy the gloss will just give it a slightly more translucent look but you can try it I used the above mentioned technique to replace a missing (cloudy) tusk on a little glass elephant It is just a box made from cardboard made to look like a gingerbread house in the end the double sided sticky tape worked. I could have save myself some time struggling with the wood glue

steampunk elephant - VERY cool.
I've thought about trying a gingerbread house (the edible ones!) for the last few years but still too daunted. Gonna try a yule log cake.

;D Yay photos.
The biscuit cutters are cool, my boys would like those - Damien does ninjitsu and Jesse does tae-kwon-do, they'd be perfect... Thanks for all the great links too, little gingerbread houses are neat.
I really like your gingerbread gift box, well done.. very effective ;D
But most of all I absolutely LOVE your baby dragon... that is perfect! Excellent colour, beautiful work, I really do love him.
What I DONT love is the faux crystals using the translucent. They look quite opaque, like plastic really...I wish I had put pink into it to make rose quartz. Oh well I'm going to have to use them anyway, but not too impressed with them.

Thank you Donna the box's paint work is a little crude but I told myself it is suppose to look that way The translucent clays do end up with a milky appearance have you tried adding a little bit of pink paint to the clear gloss to make it look like rose quarts

;D Ha ha... yep thats exactly what I did do.. after I had posted I went and painted them with a thin wash of pink. I glossed them once, but I'll use the resin afterwards... It'll work... you just have to change tack sometimes huh, I don't have time to run out and get crystals, sooo, fake rose quartz it is, hehe. On with the next part.. too cloudy to see the eclipse....

....adding that I washed over that again with a blue/grey and wiped most off and it looks just like rose quartz, will be spot-on with gloss. Cool.. I'm going to use the same technique to make some more later. (not to say I wanted rose quartz on the elephant tho' ) haha

Went to Crystal Mountain with Jesse, had a wonderful time, nice lunch. Bought the crystals.. 6 for $10 so I got the 2 quartz crystals (slightly too big, but okay) aaand.. 4 Opalite stones for me, I LOVE opalite very much...magic stones, also a gorgeous natural crystal vase/candle holder for 1/2 price, only $10 for Sil. So it was well worth the visit. ;D I can finish the elephant tonight now.
