;D Wow, wonderful work Blue. The babies are gorgeous, so realistic and lots of character, I love them. Well done with the BJD progress, I knew you could do it.. They are really coming along. I agree with you about the joints too, I like the 'ball' joints much better, theres something about those 'cricket' joints (as you call them hehe) some look quite yuk (for want of a better phrase) Thanks for sharing..

yer ive only painted the dome side up cause of the edge its great to keep right pushing into clay plus some seam to have glue on the underside.... i think once painted it needs to be sealed asap as its done to stop the paint scratching off tho. but im sure you can get nailheads with no ridges im SURE of it. im gonna attempt embossing the domes with my smallest paper punch to embos the iris... it might make painting it easier. dont quote me on that lmao
next thought to try is very mini metal washers
its this or reverse painting on the inside of the glass dome which i dont wanna have to do. groan.........
eyes are just one of those things we all need our own magic touches and styles with. and they have to be *Just so they HAVE to be right. all depends on it and in a sense its all just staring us in the faces we are just one step away............ so almost there ladies please dont give up.
thanks for your positives tho... the clay stuffs just so darn slow in a way at the mo with holidays and such but still, looking at the pics today... even tho there is still a million miles to go with them its a good start and shaping up ok. there is just so much to think of technically speaking. joints angles shapes sizes etc. they are both 14 inch but that might change slightly once the task is complete. and yer those bees knees. i do know the bean and cricket knees bend more you can get them sitting quite well on their knees this way better than the balls but ........... *screws up nose* i dunno
i keep thinking of that bjd with what was it 280 joints or something in it. such a mammoth effort thats for sure. but i bet it moved fluid.
mine. one will have 14 and the other 18 and that is ENOUGH to figure out. ive kinda gone a bit diffy than *La book to so ive made it harder on myself once more. oh why .! cant stop tho far to addicted.
;D so glad to be able to share the insanity GRIN
besides i know you lot are far worse than me ( sprints out fast )

Yeah... you better run!!! Hahahaha. I thought the anguishing, aka multiple head butts on table, were due to my total newbie'ism, but I now see it will NEVER END..aaargh. Please bat me upside the head if I attempt anything other than 'easy' for the next 2 years at least... My little monsters tricked me into watching a puppet movie, suggesting it might help me... it was HORRIBLE..I bailed at a certain point.. I was deeply disturbed (LOL) totally put me off my poor puppet girls. Team America world police. Fantail... don't ever watch it..

SNORT............. *9 is another new movie out tim burton blah dark but interesting note.. embossing nailheads symmetrically is harder than one would think omg aparently i cant do that either sticking a smaller nailhead onto larger painted head will stand up enough to notice and not look right. far out... back to painting with a pin and tortureing myself with pupils again. *easy* is illegal Donna sorry....... besides its boring at heck. i can see we are all secret sadists here torturing ourselves so realistically we should just be satisfied with the normal way most people do things...the easy way....... the quick way but alas. nup normal things lack interest but i might ban myself from talking on eyes so tails can play with clay again. Tails *points to clay bar........> . anyhow have a fantastic weekend ladies. my kids in wellsford again so hmmmmmmm busy enjoy... ***Coffs up hairball in the shape of a cricket knee which looks suspiciously like it has a painted eye on it*** outta here xxx

Ha crazy me wanted to see if I could start sculpting a Bjd I never made a doll without starting with the head first but since eyes are bugging me I decided to see if I can make the limbs now I know why they sculpt it as one piece then cut it up I have no idea which part was front lol and it is so hot the clay holds no sharp shapes Have fun ladies

Sorry but starting with the leg doesn't work for me I need the head for me to be interested in it at all so untill I have eyes I'm not makeing the bjd
Blue what about using your smallest punch to punch the pupil from black paper or thin card? (or painting the white black after you punched it) it might not stand out as much as the nail head

Hi to you all.. LOL at cricket knee joint with eye on.. And confused body parts... Fantail, I'd probably want to start with a head first too I think. I'm delighted that you're considering making a BJD anyway.. it might drive you crazy but it will be so worth it... and besides.. you've already made good eyes before and now you've got the resign..so ;D YAY!!! Lotsa BJD's coming up.. wahooo. (not from me tho') Looks like Anubis is off with the Goblin again...give her back!!! ;D

Darn Doll trickery....................
and yer I always start with the head to, it builds the character or mood of the rest dossent it. I tried A1 in parts and that diddnt work for me either i couldnt get limbs to match up right thats why i did these last two whole then chopped them to bits and pieces. i not expert but thats hwo its done in the book to. head and torso. legs and arms. urg.
and yer eyes.freekin heck. Im gonna get some more of the big glass beads, grind down a level for iris and glass paint them, then put lens over. why...just cause i love to torture myself.
sorry youve had such trickery Tails, its all trial and error but i do know that when you do this bjd task it will be fantastic. and perfect.

Quote: [you've got the resign..] That was supposed to read "you've got the RESIN" btw. Well I have just dropped kids at Wellsford for at least a week.. I should get time to get a few things done now and sculpting is high on the list, looking forward to clay-work ;D Fantail.. I wouldn't be so forward as to advise you on making eyes.. but I did want to mention I got the resin to dome well by pressing an indent into the clay ball before baking. The resin domed only on the indent/iris. Maybe it would be worth experimenting with the nail-heads 'concave' as well. Just a thought.. Talk soon..

Thank you for the advice Blue don't know about perfect but I will give it a go when I have some eyes Tried my hands at puttying three window panes today - and I've learned I prefer painting LOL Hahaha that makes more sense Thank you for the tip Donna I have indented the iris before baking ;D now I feel like I'm getting on the right track
Have fun

Hi Blue I am reading a book called Porcelain doll making n detail: beginner’s study manual by Ruth Niemi It says it is excerpts out of a larger book but it still has a lot of information in it and quite an interesting read
There and back again a tale by... Lol
Glad you sculpted something cute maybe there is some truth in the tortured artist thing though I'd rather not go there and keep it as a happy medium

I would like to see the 'small & cute' Blue.. Oh no, eyes in the bin... you should've put them into something freaky.. like a one-eyed goblin or something.. hehe. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I got my porcelain doll book. "Creating original porcelain dolls" by Hildegard Gunzel.. it looks very good too, if you know what you're doing that is... ;D Talk about obsession... I had great intentions for today, but what have I been doing... studying BJD's and EYE tutorials. Good grief.. I'm not even working on either of those projects www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO6259ot9lI&feature=relatedcreatingthehive.com/blog-post/28183/glass-eyes-for-your-dolls-tutorial*message to self.. need to figure out hands and ankles for marionettes* Have fun today ;D

I have my marionettes under a high-powered magnifier, scraping and sanding, and deciding whether to remove the last of the clay paint or not, or even if they are worth carrying on with.. considering the rest of the work involved... coffee and book study sounds like a better option to me.. ;D (and it's raining because I did heaps of washing including duvets ) I'm wondering if genesis melts a bit in the oven, or does it just bake as it's applied.. I'm not sure whether to try baking to see if it evens out, it's patchy looking at the moment... it will be harder to remove if I bake it and it doesn't even out.... I'll try to find out on the web, but if you know I would appreciate the advice... ;D

Put ya Rain stick and your pegs AWAY please !!! I was blaming myself for the rain seaming i gave the garden a good soak last night But it was YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aw heck I dunno G paints is more of a water soluble oil to be honest it sinks in a little, you could go for a very very thick all over foundation . does take a bit longer to cure or maybe just a couple more thinner coats
You've done so much work on your marionettes it would be a DARN CRYING SHAME not to complete them. so many lessons from start to finish They are so close to completion now tho Dont give up !!! besides if you dont complete them now youll regret it ; P ( looks into bin at stupid wonky eyes.)
Iddy bjd is in the oven again and i think with a bit of a sanding it will be 95% there. just a few little patches/scratches to sort out and its done then painting and stringing etc. and yer with toes pointed down she is just under 5 inch. much bigger than id planned-typically. it would be neat to have it all articulated but to be honest im just to lazy at the mo to do it. maybe tails could make her an articulated bear buddy GRIN

I'm back.. I got an aura-migraine, so had to take a break for awhile... I looked at the girls again, you're right Blue I think they're worth carrying on with, I'm sure it's all fixable... maybe if I wasn't studying them with reading glasses on and under a 1000x magnifier they wouldn't look soooo bad LOL. I only intended to cover a couple of moonies with the clay paint, but I got carried away... it seems I should have thinned it heaps from what I read, but the jar said not to..said to apply 3 coats baking 8 mins between each. I only applied one so far. Fantail, what are you working on? Blue.. is she finished yet? I agree.. her face is very pretty
