;D Helloooo... I've been searching for an idea for something to start.. Needs to be fun, fairly easy and something I can actually get finished and be happy with (like my troll )... I have a few ideas but haven't started anything yet. How are all the projects going, any further with BJD's ? I think Anubis is probably flat-out with her show entry for March, hope we hear from her soon.. I tried to find the brush cleaner that was mentioned on the OG (to remove paint) but wasn't successful so far. Blue I'm having another look at the airbrush you told us about... I think I'll get one. Have fun...xxx

oo yippie. i find you do need to have an airtrap even a mini one in your compressor line i run it mostly at 35 psi and use acrylic mix so far ill do enamels next time. but they actually are a great little brush for small areas. nice fine mist really im quite impressed with them. they are however a knockoff. but still listed mostly under nail art brushes there are cheaper ones listed. $2 with $15 postage. not bad. id grab yourself a spare needle to go with it if you can. I accidentally busted one tip whilst cleaning..oops. bjd are coming along ok im working on the torso with the three parts and head at the moment want to get that rolling nice before i start ripping apart the limbs any further. why did i not just follow the book......WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ? working on the head and neck today trying to get it shaped so the head will roll all ways and push up and right down without limiting anything and without having to see to much Ball hmmmmm tricky really. not sure wether to make the heck ball bigger or not so plenty of experimentation i guess trial and error. the mid section upper is a little to rounded i need to sort that out (sanding i guess) its hard to be able to articulate it and not show to many gaps as such. its looking ok really im just over working and over thinking it. Just making it harder on myself for no particular reason lmao shesh Did i mention ive been bad and bought another bjd book. it is another maker book * how to make a bjd in 5 days SNORT!!!!!!!!! whatever would take me 5 days of reading and looking before i even touched clay. It is much like the Yoshida book just different style. cgi.ebay.com/Doll-Art-Copaine-Poupee-Book-make-5days-/120676032931?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c18da21a3fun little projects are so GREAT ! hope you find something that tickles your fancy well done you ok am off........ clay torturing to do . kicks stone and slinks off backstage

I don't think they sell that in New Zealand I have looked for it at art stores and online but then you never know if enough people ask for it they might sell it looks like a great book Blue Have fun

Hah I briefly dreamed about struggling with BJ joints So I tried to glaze a few eyes after creating the dome but the self leveling meant it didn't really work unless the dome is really high - some worked some didn't, so with the next load of eyes I am going to try to glaze the eye then add the lens though I'm a bit worried about the edge of the added lens. But some gloss paint might be enough - I will paint the ones I have and see I have too many irons in the fire, better finish the little beast so I can get something out of the way

Interesting stuff. your eyes were so darn pretty i cant wait to see the next installment....... all eyes peeled well i demolished bjd knees and invented this strange bendy bean of a double joint............. it was the ugliest thing ive ever ever EVER seen or made even... it made cricket knees look sexy....Seriousley.....so ive dumped the idea.... now i have a 1 cm to resculpt back into said legs........OMG im just gonna have to be satisfied with lack of flexibility and be done with it for now. the single joint at least will still give you a 90# degree knee bend ill have to live with it !!! My books arrived from Japan. im kinda disappointed. the sculpt a bjd in 5 days was a huge doll photo book mostly with a two page section briefly outlining how to make....GROAN. so i wont bother with any more ill stick with yoshidas book and save up for the darned expensive advanced book if i ever get to that stage. sigh. darn it. have w wonderful day ahead xR

LOL
Awe it looked like it had such potential Don't know if this makes sense... you know how the upper leg's knee joint angle upwards towards the back (/) would it give more movement if the lower leg angles down at the same degree around the ball joint (\)- I know it might not look that great but just a thought

Your Absolutely Correct there In theory if you slightly taper behind the knees down and up both legs youd be able to push it past ( just) the 90 degrees and maybe if the top of the knee ball was more half bean shaped it might give you a few more degrees of bend. there are some designs that have the back of the thigh utterly cut in to accommodate the bent calf when kneeling . it looks horrid from behind tho. strange divets running up and down the rear of the legs... I just want to keep a natural curvy leg shape.urg im asking to much from a single joint. but realistically im attempting to work above my skill level again to i just needs to do the simple version first then attempt gravity defying joints in another sculpt...lmao please slap me hard right now......... lol
ive been covering marbles in clay and scoring them around so i can remove marble. stuff with more clay and reattach. its worked well but i did manage to superglue a fingernail to side of said ball ........sniggger alllllllllll you like i did lol when i ripped off ball from said finger and saw broken nail still stuck to side of ball..... lol jsut cannot redeem myself from that.
ok back to studio i gotta do knees and get this stucker killed off today. stick to BASIC plan and complete knee task once and forall.
then its onto elbows......MIGHTY GROAN> but i have a plan at least.
bbl for coffee

bottom middle photo shows * funny thighs* I think im getting use to it now tho can see the practicality of it....... UGLY tho standing with a huge hole at back but at least the calves are hole....and it does kneel naturally this way. this body has pose-able fingers and toes and is about 80cm so a BIG dolly in stone clay. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm back to boring single jointed knee for me............. off i trot.........trikety trot... so i guess a mini bjd bear with moving nose ears and paw parts is out of the question? ? ( ducks quick) as for jointed hands...... there are a few life sized bjd hands around they do look pretty cool and id love to have a play with them...but as for making them.......FORGET IT !!! jointed toes ffs PFFFFFFFT ! the thighs are just strange but in pose they look so good from the front and side . remind me of android knee rears really........ i am over these knees..... please remind me to NEVER experiment with prototypes again. EVER ! maybe time to write self new list.... 1.......do not experiment with prototypes 2...... start with the basics 3 ..... restart with the basics 4...... follow basic instructions 5...... stop inventing things. 6...... follow first 5 rules

There is nothing basic about BJD's and you have come so far- no use going back to basics

Screws up new list and chucks it in the bin knowing full well the effort was futile..... fanks gorgeous. its coming along ok really -- just a twinge of perfectionist tendencies to throw a paddy at lack of expertise the second one will be easier as always. am sure of it. knees sorted for now thank goodness am running out of time for to much more today, have the kids going on holiday again so need to get them sorted out. Have yourself a fabulous long weekend. keep dry and warm and with luck youll find some solitude in clay beastie and do try and be good. yes YOU catch you next round xR

You talk about lack of expertize and yet I see no sign of it in the BJs you've made they really are fantastic already you've set the bar really high but I know you will get there and then just push it up for the next challange

HELLO.. I've had no internet for 3 days... aaahhhhrgh!!! I've missed you... Blue.. what an amazing job you're doing on the BJD's, unbelievable work. Well done ;D I'm getting ready to make eyes once again, and the puppet girls keep sneaking out of the UFO box every so often, otherwise I haven't had much of a chance to get into anything. As you say Blue - school back next week, so things will be back to routine then. Nice to be on-line again... ;D

Hi, hope everyone is having a great weekend... I spent some time conditioning clay last night. I have made a super sculpey/living doll blend and fimo flesh/glo-n-dark blend, so will be interested in how they go together. I was having a look at Anna Zueva dolls - whimsey dolls with beautiful costuming and detailed displays.. ;D... lovely.. annazueva.ru/en/

tirelessartist.blogspot.com/some neat styled dolls here. RJD = ribbon jointed dolls. she does make some with metal loop joins to. fishing lours that swivel 360 youll spot those knees Donna ; ) my bjd is almost done now... But i am having trickery with the ankle balls and joins . the ball i have baked on at the mo fits the foot fine but is slightly to large feeling to match the shin ( I cant bring the shin down to match the foot- had wanted to sculpt it down so it could somewhat lock at the sides for stability), but have tried with a smaller ball and ...i dont think it would be better when you get to the stringing stage. there is a point of balance at the ankle. needs to be good. hmmmmmmm not sure what to do really... just dunno.....cant have her with fat ankles tho........ oh gees. do i have to chop off the baked ball and try with the smaller again? round 3 or just poke me in the eye with a sculpting tool and be done with it muhahaha all else is good here........ few more days till 6th form starts so yee gods bring it on. what else is new
