'morning.. BLUE.. you've got me looking at eyes again!!! LOL.. I spent some time studying artificial (prosthetic) eyes yesterday.. eeewww watching them being put in.. The glass paints sound interesting.. I would like to see what you have done with them. In your Yoshida book I briefly saw a iris painting example that looked good.. I'm still thinking if you were to paint an iris on paper then reduce it on the printer..hmmm... you would have to allow for the detail to 'shrink' tho' hhhmmmm. I bought some transparency sheet to play with too.... I'm still very happy with the liquid glass (envirotex) as a gloss... I glossed the bobbles eyes with fimo at the end ( I had scratched one) and it looks yuk even after clearing with a heat gun.. no comparing to envirotex... I must buy some more... Off to buy a new camera this arvo... no more blurry, odd coloured photos..

aaaand.. I was also wondering if you could get the reinforcing rings in different sizes.. (you know the ones you put on the holes on pads for ring binders)...you could put them on the glass bead to make painting a lot easier... Have you tried painting eyes using pens? Flippin' eyes...

LMAO.. I was waiting to hear what you needed size-wise... then bid anyway... I got some retro glass ones too, and I was intending to share them with you anyway.. how many eyes can a girl make??? I just had an email to say one lot I bought are actually 'lustre' so I've had to cancel that trade.. Yep I'm supposed to be doing housework today (my house is always a mess!!) I have visitors tonight. Jesses off at 12, so he can help me pick the camera. Damien gets me westfield vouchers for gifts so I've decided to use toward the camera... nothing flash mind you.. just better than my 'phone haha.

anything with a *macro setting will help you can get cheepie sd cards etc off ebay and tm cheep enough to. best of luck looking they are really neat wee things these days. do test them in the shop.... zoom into your finger print etc and test them all out.
yer ive done a bead overload but what i dont need for eyes will be sewn somewhere else .... managed to get some other sizes to share also lmao.
well i killed my first painted eyes drying them with a heat gun... note dont use heat gun on glass paint. so am just doing another quickie batch to scratch up. dash ti to cause i spent heeps of time making them so pretty.... DASH IT !!! oh well round 5 million here we come lmao.<- that is hysterical insane laffing mind you.

;D I'm home, with new camera... I bought a samsung with $60off so only $158 & I had $70 in vouchers so only spent $88, yay.. it has 14.2 megapixels and 5x zoom with wide angle. Blah blah blah. I know nothing... all I know is it will be better than my old 2 mp with zoom-to-blur. I just hope it doesn't show up all the imperfections on my sculpts ;D I'll have to learn to drive it now...
LOL at you blue contemplating bead making including torching...
So sorry to hear about your heat gun mishap... so much work too. Tricky business this.... hours of work can be destroyed in seconds. Maybe we do need heaps of beads after all...
Oh and I picked up more envirotex lite too. M10 Westgate has it. Good to see its still the same price after all these years..
Well now I HAVE to do housework.. be back in a coffee break...
Have you done any more eyes now Blue?

Big Congratulation on the camera it sounds snifty. youll have a bunch of fun with that for sure. fantastic price to well done. it wont take you long to get it sorted out either youll surprise yourself ; ) not worried bout the eyes. just wanna let them dry so i can test them now but oh ill have to zip back to westgate if they have the envirotex ..... i couldnt find it last time it does a darn good job anyhow and probably our safest bet. your eyes with it were smashing lady smashing... i did learn tho if you get a wonky edge with the glass paint you can just run your blade around the edge to tidy it up. i mean a wonky bit can be just a hairs breadth. ya know those old granny beads fake and i mean ugly fake pearl beads they were cheep and nasty but actually plated on glass beads...... well ya can scratch the crud off with your finger i thought to chuck a lot in a jar with turps to save me sitting for 3 hours scratching it off with my nails..........well....... ya know its soaked for two days. ive shaken and shaken it and IT WONT COME OFF ! what the HECK! why will this not come off its a plastic coat. turps should soften it at least but jar shakin it should break it off....... do i need acid ? cause that can be arranged. and as for the blow torch.....gees just keep me away please i know id do major carnage to myself if i made beads i just know it but it still will not stop me veering off in all directions checking out every option in the process. really its just a tube of class a melted blob and chucked into a mold how hard can that really be., nothing else needed. hmmm someone slap me fast. something funny today..... i laff that insane laff with glazed googlie eyes again... You know my blue girl. the 24 inch one. ive been told it will have a beter chance of commercial sale if it had a hard body and full jointed limbs. insert very blank stare .... i dont know if i have the heart to ever work on it again... seriously. anyhow rambeling again sorry. have a great one ladies

I'm going to 'lens' the bobbles eyes with the resin now I have it.. not happy with the murky fimo. Re Blue girl.. ... unbelievable... Acetone is better at getting paint off than turps..I've already done that experiment many times (not with fake pearls tho'). Another thought.. soak them in gel paint stripper. Neither will affect the glass. Geez why am I back here... addictive place.. supposed to be tidying up...

I do have some ceramic paints - not sure if its the same Try some nail polish remover to wipe the pearl coating off - maybe they will soak off too As for your Blue Girl _ THAT'S REDICULOUS! I want her! Surely people will want to reborn them - I know I want to Give her pointy ears and people can make more fairies No don't you let them destroy her expression she is beautiful- deep breath I hope it turns out well, maybe we can win lotto then you can get them reproduced by the lot in Germany or some big company haha Glad you got a good camera Donna, now you just need a website then we can go and oogle at your gallery of pictures whenever we want

Yeah I'm back... had another thought.. if you can't shift the coating you could always respray them... btw...nail polish remover IS acetone, just so you know... Fantails prob right there, you could just market her yourself, robbity bob has them on TM (reborns) and theres the doll show... but thats all out of my league... Fantail I made a website a while ago...but it had nothing on it LOL LOL.. I think they may have closed it. I called it "creations of the crone"

They have acetone free nail varnish nowa days and it still works though not as good/strong. Now you have something to put on it though I don't see you as a old or a crone

LOL Believe me... I'm both.. I just went and checked and it is still there.. I made it so I would hopefully be inspired to do lots of work to put on, plus the artwork I'm supposed to be working on but stopped when I found polymer clay... ;D creationsofthecrone.webs.com/

Morning lufflies.
so glad about your camera Donna that is really so very cool. shall we wait for the photo bomb influx ? YAAAAAAAAAAAA go you.
and thanks guys i really am not thinking will dose off the turps and try in a jar of acetone and see if i can strip the granny beads.
ceramic paints arent the same as the glass i only have the Pebeo Vitrea 160 Glass Paint i do have some ceramic paints to should give them a go and see if they hold. both have similar baking time. but im happy to send you some tails if you feel like torturing yourself hehehehe i do have some ceramic beads coming anyhow tails i just thought they might look quite nice painted up. also have some white jade beads coming. it just looks like marble so it might paint up nice also.
as for blue girl. ................. yes................. I could have her reproduced myself but im not sure id get the sales for it fo the price id have to charge. it would be cheaper for peopel to visit Kmart lmao for play dolls. dunno..... will have to see what happens. but she would look cute with we pointers thats for sure.
anyhowz. i will bake these crazy eyes this morning and add clay and hack at them and see if they hold up. will let you know latters on.
have yurselves a wonderful day lufflies shall keep busy anyhowz.....bbl for coffee

Thank you very much Blue but practice with the paints first and if its sticks well we can always do another swap later this year. Right now I'm still playing with the iris printouts and adding flecks of pearl or gold mixed paints. The resin was a real break through (thank you Donna) That's why I was thinking on the reborn side and if you make some up for collectors. But I understand that you will need to deal with large quantities to make it worth your while and in the current economy a rather slow turnover. Best of luck with the eyeballs Look at these dollies www.zawieruszynski.com/

Love those dollys they are so adorable. such beautiful glass eyes to. oh sigh. nice price tag on the vinyls GASP but oh so pretty.
but yer the economy is holding things up. its whats stopping me doing them myself. it takes so much time on auctions and sales etc selling high end numbers. post office visits its just about a full time job in itself seriously. hours of answering emails and such likes. shesh i think i would be happier doing small number sales on the go as it rolls. building up stock for the shows etc. plod along as it were
besides my heart is still with one of a kinds...

doll eyes baked up really well except the clear gloss lens blob bubbled up and messed them up but the coloured painted iris underneath was fine. DASH maybe this stuff needs two bakes as i really guess the lens was a bit to high anyhow. hmmm ok round 9 coming up.
but a bonus was i cant even get the painted iris off the glass with a knife. it is tuff and aparently can take upto 4 bakes well.

THat's true, I can't imagine the time that goes into that and you have your hands full with ball joints and eyeballs
Its hard to sculpt perfectly rounded or symmetrical shapes

Trying to sand BJD's body - its really tricky to make it work and I just fix the the dollies eyelid then I have to get on to the arm and leg but I have other stuff that also needs doing and better go make some lunch I'll see if I can get some photos later today - keep in mind its by no means perfect and still needs more sanding

wow you really are getting on with it all well and truly well done. Did you use the white sanding blocks? they are quite grunty. or are you sanding away fine one speck at a time. i feel your pain ; ) would love to see pics at whatever stage I know with your experience youll be doing a magical job as it is. what do you think the hardest part is ? im pretty sure for me it was the knee and torso/ hip joints. getting them lined up for balance etc. next time i will do a pretty double knee if it kills me or not just dunno how but i will. i know ill do things differently next time. i have a bunch of wooden beads in better sizes to use to with luck there wont be the problems with symmetry next round. easy for me to say ha. and actually contemplating using air clay. prob is i love the finish of polymer. but bjd have captivated me well and truly. i would like to do a smaller bjd to say 7 odd inch. i know..what a sucker. but they are so darn cute how can one resist. where is Donna today? maybe preparing a photo bomb with her new camera. grin

I forgot about the sanding block - I've been using a round scalpel mainly and then smoothing with fine sandpaper
I don't have any experience with ball jointed dollies- its a whole new ball game Have fun with those mini bjd's Are you thinking of reproducing them in porcelain or just making ooak's in polymer
|
|
|
Post by blue on Feb 25, 2011 13:47:46 GMT 12
the edge of a scalpel is a magical thing indeedy ( looks straight to finger scar) does a fab job on clay to GRIN . but yer those sanding blocks make for quick work, you just have to keep banging the dust out of them and when they do wear down they are a good alternative for wet and dry.
But going from ooak's to bjd is a curve ball straight out the left field.! even if youve read 10000 books seem 5000 photos etc its still a hands on learning experience straight off the cliff.
the goal when i grow up is to reproduce them in porcelain i can dream on but first ill do resin as its stronger and cheaper and easier to work with. and you can add clay to ON/resin and rebake / repaint. so at least there are customizing options with it. you can paint it with enamel or oil or genesis etc also.
id love to make a mini but at the moment it feels the equivalent to making a mini bjd bear way outta my league
i will start reproduction ( very very limited) in resin but i will make more in polymer and maybe air clay till they are really better quality moving joints etc. I honestly dont trust the integrity of polymer bjd elasticated over time. im sure the stress will crack them apart and fracture the joints. i really had to string mine tight but it is 14 inch and weights a pound of clay. maybe something much more dainty and better aligned would hold up well tho. just dunno id prefer to use springs but. that just hurts my brain figuring out for now. i guess as we go along and figure all things out it will all become clear as day. but it is so endlessly fascinating all the same.
