But you make those miny baby fairies and elves and merbies bet you can do a 7 incher no probs I know of someone making them from paper clay at the moment had the start of three ready in one day and the look really good, I'll ask what paper clay if you want
yeah I don't like the idea of it and the joints made of polymer clay but who know ... one day... so far the jointed head - cloth bodied dolls have lasted so far but then I don't play with them the way I know I will with a ball jointed poppet
that resin sounds great - is it the really toxic one that melts some plastic cups
Still haven't taken any photos and now I want to bake the head a second time The raw clay doesn't seem to effect the resin glossed eyes another positive

Helloooo... I had a visitor today and you two have been so busy I don't know where to start...lol I love the dolls, absolutely beautiful.. Blue what paint did you use for the last experiment.. glass or ceramic? You need envirotex!!! Great going with the bjd Fantail... Damien bought over a sample of 'stuff' they use at his work, he thinks perfect for Bjds, I have to get the name off him...looks like plastic.. its white, though paints well apparently. I LOVE those sanding blocks you gave us Blue they are perfect. Do they do tapered ones? Where did you get them? Also those moulds for nails you showed me with tiny flowers etc, I can't find them either... you find such cool stuff.. Jesse left for Wellsford for the weekend, free time, I hope to start something new now.

It might be casting resin but I'll re-check.. it might even be what Blue already uses.. I don't know what to make next... I should work on something that might be good for the doll show but I haven't really been struck by a great idea yet. I still don't think I'm up to that level of competition...*but dont yell at me.... I WILL make an attempt and hopefully not embarrass myself... Jesse is desperate to have a bobble-head of himself so I should do that too. I had a look at your website Fantail, your work really is perfection. I had a close look at Green Magic... you so deserved to win... her expression, her hands and feet are amazing... I was wondering about cloth bodies... is it about saving clay or pose or something else?

www.topmark.co.nz/articlelive/articles/22/1/Rigid-Urethanes/Full-View.html topmarks oh man that place just sends my mind into creative spasms cant find my bottles of stuff.... i dunno where it is but its white rigid resin less toxic than most. quite safe really um but ill do homework and find details im just way to tired to even think sideways at the moment. i think it was super caste did find some rigid tan resin i have no idea where it came from tho...... hmmmmmmmm ponder...... id be interested in any recommendations Donna. preferably for solid and rotocasting sanding blocks these are actually designed for acrylic nails -- these are the cheapest on ebay. they will wear fast on sharp edges but they are still handy when worn down just need to keep beating the dust out of them. they do not come in wedges but you could always slice them. they are soft inside. the inside is useless for sanding only the outer coating.. they are really grunty new so be careful or youll sand away a LOT of clay....lmao. cgi.ebay.com/10pcs-Nail-Art-White-Buffer-Sanding-Files-Block-Acrylic-/270697706556?pt=AU_Nail_Care&hash=item3f06d7343cmini acrylic molds shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=nail+moldsyour welcome to come borrow and have a play with any i have Donna do check the postage prices as some sellers are naughty check under* nail art on ebay for interesting things. Mini fimo canes mini transfers ( which make pretty chick tattoos ) tiny nail tools. very very cheep paint brushes. just be mindful of postage as the traders really do very a lot. lots of mini sparklie fingies and such. hmm ok thats me over and out.....i think have a wonderful weekend ladies

Thank you Donna but I have so much still to learn and from time to time I feel my work looks strange. I'm still learning how to sculpt faces and making them fae-like. My bjd dolls face is bugging me specially the lips - well the whole doll is It does save clay, you can pose it if you have a wire armature. It means that the whole thing doesn't have to be baked again because you need to fix something. You can make bigger dolls then you can fit in the oven. To me its more of a doll unless you a ball jointed body of course. Any way those are my reasons. Down sides - you do need to figure out how to join it. How to make the cloth body and getting the size right, what material to you feel is best suited, how to sculpt the parts without the body there. Here is my first attempts at a bjd, the waist is not quite right either but I figure I have to start some where. Her neck is a bit short

wow Fantail..she is fantastic.. it hasn't taken you very long to get her to this stage, so well done... The eyes look stunning, great job on the lingerie.. Yay I so knew you two could achieve BJD's ;D Easy cast sounds familiar but I'll check that. I know Bootleg are supplied by Topmark.. Hes making massive spiders, snails and a grub at the moment.. Thank you for the links Blue, I have an Ebay account but I havent traded yet, sounds like I'd better start, all the good things seem to be on there. Thanks for the tip on postage too. Thanks for answering my query on cloth bodies Fantail..I had noticed a lot of doll artists use this method. I have some patterns in doll books... My mind has been ticking over with ideas but nothing started yet..

Tails..................OH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY She is stunning. stunningi cannot believe you have done all of this so fast wow she is perfect you should be hugely happy with her. love her undies to very cute. its gotta be easier to paint than sew them a. she looks so small what is she about 8 inch ish > wow love her ears to awwwwwwww cute stuff WOW omg hurry up and finish her so we can have a play please lmao as for making three air dry clay frames wow am pushed to that on the next try. wonder if clay would stick to it hmm maybe with a layer of tape ? Donna spiders and grubs sounds intriguing how cool had another rummage in the early hours and remembered that i got the rigid urethane to use as a casing mould behind silicone. like a shell. i have not got the casting materials yet i dunno why i thought i had. old woman=wonky brain. but i do want the supercaste or its likes as it does have a little give if dropped. and you can pigment it fine. but some are very toxic to work with so.... we will see what happens. and yer topmarks oh my it is amazing. anyhow shall dash..gotta get cracking but have yourselves a fabulous day ahead xR

Thank you Danna and Blue I think she'll be a bit over 10inches when I'm finished with her It wasn't that fast its been ten days since I've started her and I still have to make the arms and legs and she is far from perfect- her mouth is not right and the angel kiss is off centre her ears needed to stick out a bit more never mind I had a dream about me helping my mom make a big bjd out of paperclay hie hie Hope you find inspiration you need Donna I enjoyed reading this yesterday www.thegnomonworkshop.com/includes/interviews/wfroud.phpwww.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/355/www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/464/Creating-a-Character-Figure-with-Wendy-FroudMy computer blocked me from watching the sample clips but maybe you can I had issues with paperclay under polymer clay it takes a really long time to dry completely- chuck it in an oven to dry and it warps and it shrinks further over time so unfortunately its not a long term solution as a base for polymer. My second fairy was a disaster with cracks running through her because I made her core from air dry- (das) , covered the clay in a thin layer of glue and the polymer clay stuck to that. I'd like to drop into Topmark again one day try to get some of that Aves epoxy, its expensive but it has potential for strengthening core bits like shoulders in full sculpts and maybe a layer for shoulder plates etc

I have all brians books omg drool material to.......oh yer. I remember your fabric bodied Alice she was GORGEOUS Do you use the ultra thin cable ties on them ? some artists just sculpt the 1/3 limbs and wrap/cover up the wire bodies dont know how they would feel as such missing the body bulk ? dunno impressive all the same. ok back to work...... have a fab one

Hi Anubis... we were missing you..so great to hear from you. Happy you're having fun and creating, all the best for the market. Hiya Bll.. Oh no throbby finger Blue... bet the language was blue too with that one, I've done it I know what it feels like Fantail I'm really loving those eyes on your girl, she really is great... Anubis are you still working on the competition piece & miniatures? I got my beads today, they seem good. Blue did you get yours? I played around with printing eye sheets onto transparency film. Very effective but I think the film will be too thick to glue around the bead, also not sure what glue would be best coz film is shiny. Probably better for concave polymer beads. Hhhmmm looks like a couple of experiments coming up. Blue is that glass paint lacquer based?

finger carnage is better today but yesterday MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dat clay is starting to perrish somewhat with all the strain so........ will pull them apart and again and sand for the final time ever.......or they will end up dust in my hands lmao.
Donna the glass paint is * wash up in water. not to pongy stuff. but i will grab that resin cause dispite my best efforts i still like the deep set iris.....urg so it will be white resin caste id say.
my glass beads arrived also they are perfect. i find the glass paints end up adding 1mm which isnt to bad but still.
i need a break....... gonna sand before round 8.
have yourselves a wonderful eve

Wowy they are wonderful Blue, they can pose so beautifuly is the little dolly a bjd too. Hope you get them finished before the become too brittle
I was wondering if you put something through the bead for a better grip if you could wet sand a flat spot with course sand paper (600 or so), paint then later create the dome with resin. I managed to sand half a bead flat a while ago but that was not the rounded side
Glad your finger is better

Geez Blue they are freakin' AWESOME... Young girl is adorable and I love her wee dolly.. A3 well.. I WANT HER, seriously I do.. Brilliant result... can't wait til they're all finished. Spent some time with my muse and we decided on a project which will hopefully eventuate for the show. Head-spinning with 'figuring out stuff' now.. it will involve cantilever and receding proportions so might be a bit ambitious, who knows.. at least I'll have time to divert if I start now. Water-based glass paint that doesn't scratch off sounds great to me.. flattening the bead sounds good too, I have been thinking about trying to create an indent using dremel-type grinding/sanding bit. I'll try an eye print-out with resin dome before that and see what it looks like. Thanks for the photos Blue.. wonderful.

Don't forget your mask and maybe even wetting our dremel tip with a drop of water- you don't want to breath glass dust. Just having another look at your work Blue, those knees are really good Anubis have you come up with any new creatures? Bll and Lindiloo hope you get some creative time soon

Probably not a good idea to start attacking glass beads with a dremel huh! tony on the OG glues his print-outs to glass beads, I wish he had mentioned the glue he uses, suppose I could ask... SIL got me a voucher for an art shop for Xmas, I think I'll see if they have the glass paints you used Blue.. I'm in love with all your BJD's.. waiting excitedly for completion. I had a guest on my webpage.. might be best if I get dressed so I can welcome more... :-*Blue I hope to start sketching and modeling armature for my idea today... Enjoy the day.. ;D
