Yay power wasn't off as long as they thought, got some weeding done.. it's an absolutely beautiful day. I adore her work, very similar style to Nicole Wests work though even the same settings, I wonder who did it first.. I was thinking about joining A M group and paying for the tutorials but I read some warnings from ex pupils about requests for extra payments and holding back on final tutes... so I got nervous... who knows though.. Her work is certainly STUNNING!!! Off to make a HOT coffee ;D

Yaaa * You got the power* < moonwalks across the stage.....falls off the edge into a heaped ruin
i love her work for sure and it was her and PR and CA works that inspired me to start all those years ago. NW came along later threw ebay but she does the most amazing eyes ever....drool i just adore her funky style.
ive heard the same storys re tuts.
and to be totally honest ( and dont slap me for this please )
I dont think you need them. I utterly agree on good tuts to help you learn the fundamentals of the human form etc. working around a crazy armature etc. but from what ive seen if you follow every detail to close you do nothing but train yourself as another clone artist with little original style. i could go onto ebay right now and see 20 or so NW clone artists. 20 or so ED copys etc.
i honestly dont mean any disrespect to these artists either.
But we already have our own styles and would be doing things in our own ways ? nothing wrong with tutorials lord knows there are half a million of them around. the danger just being moving away from your own manner of working and producing another cloned item. .
ok im gonna hush now......... ( and will duck down real low )

Back..with Hot coffee in hand.. ;D
Wise words my friend... I feel the need to follow tutes while learning, my troll would never have been produced without the step-by-step of MC, and KD has helped immensely with figure sculpting.. I drool over the sumptuous works of those you mentioned above and many more... dreaming of the time my sculpts will be anywhere near... but I don't want to be a copy artist and clone their work.. I have noticed how I can now often pick an artists work by the style of the piece, that uniqueness would be something to aim for..
They are all so generous in sharing their expertise with their tutes but I guess - like any advice- you should take only what you need...
I will certainly remember what you've said.. meanwhile practice, practice, practice... ;D
Hope you're having a fabulous day..

Your absolutely right.
Lord knows without proper tutorials around i would never have learned how to make a proper armature i almost tied my hands together in a Houdini wire knot when left to my own devices. And yes so many artists are so gracious to share what they do we will be eternally grateful. thank God for them all
Im honestly not trying to be horrid and neg against them they do have their place thats for sure.
lord knows id have never managed a bjd without trolling threw half a thousand tutorials... and in honesty it would have been easier work to have stuck closer to them ... but no i invented my own way and had to torture myself with 4 different sets of knees GROAN.
the good tutorials are all tried and true thats for sure. we all have to start somewhere a.
now i shall take my big boot out of my mouth and replace it with caffeine GRIN woulda gone nice with some banana cake

I have a gazillion things to do... I'm just lazy.. Yeah lucky that Fantail is at work today.. I have a craving for banana cake now and I don't want to make one.. You don't have to look far for trouble missy... Well I'm up to hands now.. and yes I've looked at thousands of tutes on making hands too...but you still have to actually do it huh !! Trolls hands were sculpt over wire in position and the only other hands I have made 'slipped off' in the oven...Heeheee... so hopefully I'll get them right...but I'm definitely stalling... so off I go...

i thought i blew up youtube trolling hand tutorials already lmao just so helpful to *see work happening I still find it so fascinating. best of luck with your hands im sure they will be fantastic YAAA well i killed two granny beads. did dremel them somewhat to concave and just a super super quick paint with pearlex and some clear varnish to SEE what it would look like........ hmmmmmm looks nicer in life .. pearlx photographs strange sometimes. I think they might look nicer painted in geneses with just a touch of pearlx ? ok back to avoiding all forms of housework........ such a busy life Attachments:

COOL AS....!!!! Terrific eyes... So did you dremel these beads? Did you use resin for gloss or no? Would genesis stick to the glass... so many questions.. lol. EXCELLENT... I just read that Patricia rose is selling eye lenses.... if you want to have a look at them... cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130469858498

wow they are pretty. they look like those glass blanks on wire with set pupil. cute tho. isnt her work always so pretty....... oh sigh todays eye experiment will end up straight in the bin its just a tester of some thingies... well i painted the granny beads again ( another useless quickie job just to see) with genesis and they look so much more natural. threw in a dash of pearlx just on the sides and waalaa wonderful. small pupil ... but once id put the lens over it magnified so much it looks like a big black bubble. maybe when lens is dry it might simmer down?. it took about 15 seconds to grind out the inner eye with a big ol diamond bur recommend holding the bead with some grippers or pliers or your bead will become a projectile and wear a dust mask My plan is... A* to use thinned down glass paints with glass beads ( carved out with dremel) a separate glass lens set on the top ( the envirotex would be perfect lens on top to /// these will be suitable for baking in a clay head. B*resin moulded eyeballs with concave. painted and coated in envirotex? most like suitable for bakign also. genesis wont stick to glass ( it will simply scratch off ) but it grips at it ground down . it will need a good lens to keep it on. the glass paints thinned down act more like genesis/oils and stick on like there is no tomorrow once its set. my only concern is once the bead is painted with glass paints and baked and lens in put on the top and then maybe used in clay head. the air space between the lens and concave iris the air will expand? probably blow off the lens. all filled up with envirotex would be perfectly fine tho a? i have ceramic paints also. i wonder if they would be suitable for glass also ? OH you have been having fun... they look cool too.. thanks for all the info..see you do all the work and I pick your brains LOL, seriously I appreciate it..
I want to play with eye-making now.. not hands. I'll get onto it as soon as I finish these mini-thems...
I'm thinking I will TRY to dremel the glass bead.. then use the water-based glass paint you used and envirotex lens... ;D
I realised something was wrong with the J bobble and noticed huge flesh coloured feet still..groan... I hadn't done his shoes... So speaking of must-have most favourite boots... try sculpting them!! so thats what I've been doing... but I'm nearly out of time for today...

well ive painted dots of porcelain and glass paints and one dot of both mixed so tomorrow when cured i can bake them and see what lasts etc. they probably the same/compatible to be honest. i still dont know about the gap between iris and lens in the concave with air while baking.........it woudl be easier just to use the envirotex to be sure then there is no gaps. and the whole lens magnification thing maybe just need to paint the pupil quite small or just use one of those black mini nail heads. hmmmm yer it was easy peasy to drill the glass out actually id say these fuse glass beads are .... softer than normal maybe its the opaque? easy in a 12 mm bead. just a matter of having a good diamond mini bur for the small beads. but i guess if you screw it up you can always just turn the bead over.. i use the threading hole as guide. still left with more questions than answers. did you find the envirotex lens magnified your eyes somewhat? Ive had a look at my other fairys with the 3mm eyes ive used pearlx and genesis and a touch of gloss varnish and it does magnify them a little but not to noticeable at that size. its more of a noticeable issue with larger eyes tho............... see what happens when i avoid housework... i get myself into more trouble than even imagined. now i have glass paint right on my good jeans.........FACEPALM ! that will learn me hands and feet........ and eyes......... feels like a new form of torture to me

See I told you you needn't look far for mischief... ;D You've got some good results today though... and yes those little nail heads..I love the idea of using them for pupils. Envirotex does magnify the eye but I'm not sure if its as much as the lenses would. I also like the pupils bigger, the sheets I have used so far had too small a pupil I thought, realistic sized, but bigger looks better. I would prefer to use a really good printed iris, preferably one I had made myself, but I want to try painting them too. I have magnified some of the best eyes I have seen in sculpts and I'm firmly convinced most are printed, you can see the slight edge if you look real close.. I don't think you should bin those eyes I think they are wonderful. Banana cake girl should be flitting in soon... she might know if the lenses would magnify more... she did a stunning job of her last eyes in the bjd, I would love to have seen a close-up of them..hint.

There is a sculpey product that is akin to a glue that you bake to set but not sure how clear it is or if it would bond glass to glass but there has to be something otherwise painting on the back of the lens and inserting it into a clay eyeball then baking might work Nah sounds too tricky the Envirotex sounds like an easier solution Those eyes look wonderful Blue - what you mean they will be binned The resin magnifies slightly but not much it also gives it depth with the little concave, makes some of the paint flecks appear to float, some resins takes away the depth I have been scratching at her eyelids so I'll have to repaint her make-up or she won't let me take photos The eyes are really small don't know if I can get good close-ups but I'll try tomorrow I don't think they are as good as the ones Blue just made but the are good enough for me Hah you two have been up to mischief with all this banana cake talk, what are you thinking of doing with the spatula - wait don't tell me

LMAO Not Telling ! and yer eyes....... hmmmm I cannot keep a jar full of experimental eyes. i have to bin them. they give me the freeking geebies sitting around looking at me.. besides if id kept them all over the years id have a A-gee jar fulla them. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK ! everything from fimo eye canes etc. and yer maybe i should have another go with printed eyes. hmmmmm maybe tomorrow. and yer i know the stuff you mean there is a sculpty one and a fimo one. ummmm like liquid clay. one drys slightly milky and one drys clear actually Anubis knows........ someone poke her with a stick btw your dolly's eyes are beautiful... just beautiful. quite realistic, i loves them. just enough of lens to give them so much light to. lots of light and life in them. maybe ill grind off a flat level space to paint on bead and just build up the lens afterwords. and flatten and pop in a nail-head for pupil and see how that goes. and give some printouts another go. anyhowz. dashed eye obsession. helped me avoid all manner of housework tho yaa guess that means tomorrow morning shall be busy boooo lmao. oh well. hope you had a great day tails. and Donna hope you got on fine with the hands and feet. this obsessive compulsive eye experimenter is over and out for caffeine...........am hangin

Why don't you try to remove the paint with nail varnish remover from your glass eyes instead of binning them that way you will have it ready to repaint or what ever experiment you'll do next
Though I really like those eyes
Hope the hands went well Donna and the boots

LOL I'll have some hot Milo, quick go get your secret stach. (I printed them of at a photo place on glossy paper cause I hoped for good quality prints first then) I colour photo-copied them at the library so that I can get lazer print instead of inkjet but it does involve adjusting the photo copier colours and writing down for future reference If I were to use inkjet, I would stick to matte paper for a thinner yet malleable printout that I can still paint flecks of colour/metalic on as needed But thats just my personal choice
Then I paint front with Sculpey gloss to seal and glued using modge podge onto baked clay eyeball pressing the center to make sure I get excess glue out of indentation
don't know the best glue to use for glass

I've printed them out on the injet using photo paper, plain copy paper and transparency.
So far plain paper works best for me, I haven't resined either transparency or photo yet but I will... transparency paper would only be good if the surface was flat as its quite stiff it also smudges easily and can wipe off when you seal it. I wasn't sure about the shiny surface of the photo paper and it seems stiff.
I seal mine with pva glue, also recommended on envirotex. I still don't know whats the best glue for glass and intend to try pva and super-glue gel...
I think I'll try some using angelina film too..
I loved seeing your eyes again Blue, they really are so pretty...

Good Morning lufflies thanks so much for the info much appreciated.
ah maybe that's my problem i have an OLD and dodgy inkjet not a laser printer. hmm
i did print out half a million sheets in diffy papers a few years back but couldn't get good detail after shrinking the pics. hmmmmm i can taste the flavor of today's torture already lmao
then i couldnt punch them round. i guess now its nothing a good sharpie cant fix tho.
i dont think bakable glass glues gonna happen but would be fine for resins and plastic etc. hmmmmmmmmm
and it continues...........
How did you get on with your clay yesterday Donna did you get those boots sorted ?

Blue one thing I learned when reducing pictures that you want to print is too make sure your pixel amount is high 300 not 72 dpi (also known as resolution) and then reduce the image size if you reduce the pixel size you loose all the detail but you can still change it back up before you reduce the image size
I feel like my fingers are typing blah blah blah better go get some clay ;D
